Turning 96 the end of June and nostalgia is a constant companion now. Hank is always in there. It has been 72 years since our paths crossed, he a Marine, me, a sailor in Norfolk, Virginia. We both sang in the David Adam's Memorial Chapel Choir, acted and designed sets for the Norfolk Little Theater, he was in my wedding party, was our only guest for our first Thanksgiving in our new apartment, we painted, we wrote poetry, and he was there for the birth of our daughter. He was family We stayed in touch right up until he left us...Never met Betty or the two boys but he wrote so much about them that I feel like I had. Miss the man dreadfully BUT the fact that he was in my life softens that.

Seven years seven long years we have missed you Henry. So great to see these photographs of Betty and the boys and Joyce. Our times in Norfolk were phenomenal times, the Marines, the Navy and our Norfolk Little Theater when you joined us to help with the staging of HOME AT SEVEN, your first show there. MIss you dreadfully.

I have just listened to the recording of Hank's funeral and am moved to tears over the loss of one of the most generous and talented gentleman I have ever known. Hank and I were in Norfolk, VA at the same time, he in the Marines, I in the Navy. We met in the David Adams Memorial Choir and became involved with the Norfolk Little Theater. Those were such phenomenal days and while we went our separate ways with careers in University Theater, we remained in touch. I treasured his friendship and was thrilled when he and Joyce visited me in Chicago. We have lost a truly remarkable human being but feel blessed that he was part of our lives.

Many senior students enjoyed the stories and memories of films he so generously shared with us. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

I knew Dr. Hammack from 1967 to 1971. He was a fantastic teacher and director. I was cast in several of his productions and had the time of my life. He has always had a special place in my college memories. I was blessed to have had his influence during the formative years of my adult life.
