Henry "Hank" Worley Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 7, 2024.
Henry "Hank" Gordon Worley, 86, peacefully passed away on October 2nd, 2024 in Fort Myers, Florida surrounded by his loving and devoted family. Born December 28th, 1937 in Queens, New York to the late Gordon Craig Worley and Alice Worley (Mayer). In addition to his parents, Hank was preceded in death by his sisters Hella Norden (Schutze) and Ulla Schmahl (Schutze).

Hank (his preferred name) grew up in the Howard Beach neighborhood of Queens, New York and was a graduate of Xavier High School '56, joined the Army Reserve, and matriculated at St. John's University '61. He was hard-working and dedicated, spending over 30 years as a Federal Bank Examiner for the FDIC. In 1966 he moved to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida where he met and fell in love with Joanne and raised their family. He was a devoted husband of 53 years to Joanne Worley (Ruot), a loving father to Gregory (Keriann) Worley and Michael (Jessica) Worley, and proud grandfather to Aubrey, Morgan, Baylor, Kirsten, and Caroline. Upon retirement Hank split time between Fort Myers and Waynesville, North Carolina where he enjoyed socializing with friends and relatives, traveling, golf, racquetball, and was an early adopter and proponent of pickleball.

Ultimately Hank will be remembered for his wisdom, endearing and affable nature, witty sense of humor, and wholehearted love and devotion to his family and friends. We find comfort in knowing that Hank's legacy lives on through the lessons he taught us, the love he shared, and the memories we created. He is dearly missed and will be forever cherished by all who were fortunate to have known and loved him.

Join us for a celebration of Hank's life on Saturday November 2nd, 2024 at 11am at The Club at Pelican Preserve located at 9802 Pelican Preserve Blvd, Fort Myers, FL 33913. My first memory goes back to our first family trip to meet our US family in Fort Lauderdale. Hanky Panky always joked and played in the pool with us and took us out on the boat.
Hank has not only been my favorite uncle - he and Joanne were always there while I lived in the US, providing a home away from home during holidays and spontaneous trips. My fondest memories include a trip to Hotdog Heaven, Hiking the Mountains in North Carolina and dance offs with G&T´s on Thanksgiving nights...
Hank- I will miss your infectious smile, your wit and conversations over a snack and a drink.
Cheers my favourite uncle - life won´t be the same without you!

The first time I met Hank, I was only 19 years old. I was visiting Mike, my then boyfriend, while on spring break all the way back in 1996! I was nervous to meet his parents, Hank and Joanne, but they were both so warm and friendly and made me feel right at home. Hank being his natural self, made me do a spin in his living room. I just remember him reminiscing of Joanne´s legs and how she would use his body as weight to tone her legs during her workouts. Hank easily took me in as his daughter-in-law and we quickly gained endearing love and respect for each other.
I´ve spent 28 beautiful years as Hanks daughter n law. That´s 28 years of amazing holidays, vacations together, weddings, anniversary celebrations, birthdays, and so much more.
I cherish all of the memories we´ve made together as a family over the years. But what I cherish the most with Hank are the memories of Mike and my wedding. Hank was so happy and proud of us. He had told me he was proud he was of all of my hard work to make it through anesthesia school, proud that I truly loved his Son, and proud that I would become his daughter-in-law. His generosity made me so happy to be a part of their family. I think the only thing Hank was skeptical about was the fact that I was a vegiterrian at the time. He was already concerned about his future grandchildren, not even born yet, eating enough protein. As I told him then, I would never impose my beliefs on my children. He was so excited when he saw my girls eating chicken wings, steak, lamb, and all other different kinds of meat. He was especially happy because they loved it!
With that being said, I always will cherish the first time he met my daughters Kirsten and Caroline after they were born. He was so excited to meet them and he loved them both so much, right from the day they were born. He was a lucky guy to be blessed with a total of 5 granddaughters!!! He loved each and every one of them so much!
I´m sad that he will not be here to dance with them at each of their weddings, especially to Aubrey´s wedding. He always said that he just wanted to make it to her wedding and dance with her on the dance floor. While you won´t be there in person, I know you will be there in heaven watching over and protecting your granddaughters from above. I also know you´ll be at your granddaughters weddings in spirit dancing with them and dressed to impress in one of those sharp looking tuxedos you look so Dashing in. Hank, I will always hold a very special place for you in my heart, we all will. We will miss you forever and always. We love you so much.

Hank was one of the greatest men I have ever met. My first memory of Hank was when Greg introduced me to him in their living room. Hank stared at me a minute and looked at Greg and said something like oh man I would hate to be anyone that F´s with you two guys, he´s a big boy. Few tried but they definitely regretted their decisions, right Greg?
My next memory of Hank changed my life and how I saw my future. Until Hank I never saw a father hug their son. One day for no reason other than we came home from school, Hank gave Greg a giant hug and said I love you. He did that for nothing! Greg didn´t win an award, graduate from anything at that moment or drill another player on the field. Talk about lessons. In that moment that MAN showed me that your family deserves a father who will love and hug them unconditionally. I grew up to have my own family and never skip a hug or an I love you. I tell this story because seeing him do that ultimately helped to give me the relationship I have with all four of our kids. Thank you Hank!!!! You positively affected my life and you never even knew. God bless you, your beautiful wife, your sons, daughter in laws, and all your wonderful grandchildren. You will always be in our hearts and your smile never forgotten.

He always smiled and his smile was contagious. He loved Caitlyn Clark and Tyler hero . He would constantly say how proud he was of everyone around him, when I graduated basic and called him it meant so much to me to hear that he would talk about how proud he was of me and it motivated me to continue to make him proud.
