Henry Pemberton

HENRY W. PEMBERTON, M.D., 91 ROCKFORD - Henry W. Pemberton, M.D., 91, passed away Sunday, January 11, 2015. Born in Rochester, Minnesota on January 6, 1924, to Dr. John and Elizabeth Pemberton. Henry married Joyce Ruud in 1949. They had three children, Robert, Richard and Pamela. Married Barbara Ekstrom in September of 1990. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in WWII in the Army Medical Corp. He was a graduate of Amherst College and George Washington Medical School and practiced at St. Luke's Hospital, Chicago and Mayo Clinic, Rochester before going into private practice in Rockford from 1957 to 1995. He also worked as a part-time physician with the Winnebago County Health Department from 1995 to 2011. Served as President of the medical staff of OSF St. Anthony Hospital in 1970, Chief of Staff from 1973-1975, and on the Board of Directors of the Winnebago County Medical Society from 1978-1980. He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church. He is survived by his son, Rick (Chris) Pemberton of Rockford; step-daughter, Kay (David) Crowley and their children, Emily and Michael of Atlanta, GA.; and granddaughter, Ashley Pemberton of New York. Predeceased by his wife, Barbara; son, Bob; and daughter, Pam. Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, January 15, 2015, with a visitation from 1 p.m. until the service in Honquest Family Funeral Home-Mulford Chapel, 4311 N. Mulford Road, Loves Park.
