Herbert H Chafey

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Herbert Hastings Chafey (Herb) in his 98th year, on August 22, 2025.



Herb is survived by his beloved wife of 71 years, Elizabeth (Betty) Chafey, and his much loved children David and Susan (Charlene). Cherished grandfather of Adam (Laura), Lyndsey (Jason) and great-grandfather of Lily, James and Grace. Dear brother of Noreen Adamic and predeceased by sisters Norma Whitridge, Edwyna Noble and Lois Pryce. Herb was very fond of his nephews, nieces, and cousins in Canada and in the U.S., and enjoyed keeping in touch. He very much appreciated their conversations and visits throughout the years. Herb was born to parents Albert and Daisy in 1927 in Wakaw, Saskatchewan. He later moved east, spending most of his business life in Montreal (where he met the love of his life, Betty) and in Toronto working first with the Bank of Montreal and then with the Globe and Mail. Herb and Betty retired to waterfront life on Lake Couchiching in Orillia, where they took up boating, and continued to spend their time enjoying golf and curling. Herb spent 15 rewarding years as a proud volunteer at Orillia Soldiers' Memorial Hospital. He was a long-time member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, Orillia. Cremation has taken place. A family celebration of Herb's good, long life will take place at a later date. If desired, a donation to Orillia Soldiers' Memorial Hospital Foundation would be welcomed by the family.
