Dear Jeanine, Upon hearing of Herbert´s death, first, our hearts go out to you and your daughters with sympathy and love. So many good memories flood our minds of events and causes so generously supported by you and Herbert. Our relationship began with your donation in the early 1980´s to help Gould Farm attend to the needs of Black teens from Atlanta who were given refuge for a summer in Monterey when a serial killer was killing their some of their community members. You and Herbert supported the Gould Farm mission in sooo many ways. Our four children still occasionally wear one of their T-Shirts from the annual Coyne Picnic when you and Herbert brought joy to the whole GF community at your home!

Herbert and you have infused so much love into the world! Lis and I happen to be in Monterey and will not return to our NC home for a few weeks. We would love to stop and see you.

Dear Janine and family,
From the moment Herb first introduced himself to me when he wanted to bring someone from the Bank of China for a tour of The Met's Chinese galleries--I'm guessing it was nearly 40 years ago--he has been a cherished friend and a wise counsel. He supported the very first computer purchased for the Asian Art Department, which was quickly dubbed "Herbie." He helped us to acquire a variety of Chinese paintings, and he offered wonderful encouragement as both a Friend of Asian Art and as a member of our Asian Art Visiting Committee. I will cherish his delightful sense of humor and his ability to laugh at many of life's follies. My wife Vera and I were delighted to visit Janine and Herb in the Berkshires and discover that the cream cheese they served came all the way from Russ and Daughters! So many fond memories.
My sincere condolences to the family. I hope you will all find occasions to visit The Met. Please let me know when you do.
All the best,
Mike Hearn
