We, who knew Garth know what our loss is, and we may never see his like again, but the good thing is we knew him and that is enough !

When I was an operator in the Fabacus "machine room" as we used to call it, Garth asked me one day if I could write a quick programme to check that the sorters weren't mis-pocketing. I tried to explain to him that there were operators and programmers and that they weren't necessarily the same (skills etc). Garth's response was along the lines of, "well, I don't know the difference so there can't be one". He was right, and somehow I did it. I've never seen Garth without a smile on his face, which automatically brought a smile to everyone else's face. A lovely man!!

I worked with Garth in 1963 for a couple of weeks then lost contact. I joined a tennis club in Noosa around 2000, talking one day about where we all worked before we married the Bank of New South Wales came up and Garth's name was mentioned, it turned out that the lady who owned the court is Garth's daughter Wendy. Since then we spent many happy times with him & Wendy and even after all those years he was still the same fun loving man that I remembered when I was 20...He will leave a big hole in lots of heart's. Rest in Peace my friend.

I was part of the Fabacus project working for John Matthews in the Programming team. We all worked very hard and Garth was a tremendous inspiration to us all as he had enormous responsibilty and he performed with real class. His legacy lives on......

I have known Garth Edmondson for more than 20 years. He was a passionate, honest, loving person with a great sense of humour. It is very sad, and I miss him very badly. The world has lost a great person. Let him rest in peace. Thanks, Tommy.
