Dear Florence and the Emery family
I have known you and Herb for a number of years. I remember Herb driving you to church on snowy days. And I remember a very quiet man. But I'll never forget the time he brought the lamb to church and it was used in the sermon that Rev Barry Downing had on a Sunday morning at First Presbyterian of Ithaca. Florence you were so kind to me you helped me through the loss of my husband. You are a special friend. I will leave you with the words Clarence always said "Remember him fondly."

Herb was such a caring and special person. I feel privileged that I had the opportunity to meet him and I will hold on to the fond memories of the conversations he and I had. My heart and thoughts go out to the entire Emery family.

Dear Florence and family I wish to tell you that Herb was one of the nicest people that I have ever met. I have known Herb since I was in High School and he was always a smiling happy person. thanks to you and Herb you came to my aid more than once. I thank you both for being angels here on earth. I have so many fond memories of spending time with Herb and Florence!
It was always such a pleasure for Herb to come to my classroom and lecture on historical farming in Newfield. The students enjoyed listening to information he shared and seeing his display of antique tools.
When teaching about the early schools in Newfield and what it was like to be a student, Herb again visited my classroom and shared his experiences! I will never forget him sharing how he started school at 3 years old and was allowed to sleep under the teacher's desk. Later, during cold weather he was responsible for arriving early to build a fire. We also enjoyed the stories of him driving the school bus during snow storms.
Wow!!! I taught the local history of Newfield. It is great to be assured that one day Herb Emery will be part of a Newfield local history curriculum. He was such an icon in Newfield who will be fondly remembered!

My Deepest Sympathy to your family. Herb was a great person to work with. He always had a funny story to tell. He enjoyed coffee break with the cafeteria staff. He'll be greatly missed in the community.

Ben and Family,
I'm very sorry to hear of Herb's passing. I don't think there is a resident in Newfield that didn't know him. He was always good for a smile and wave when passing by while he worked in the field or driving around in his Pick-up. He will be missed.

Ben and family. I know how hard it is to have someone so dear leave this world to go on to the next. But keep your grandfather's memories close to your heart and remember all the times you shared with him. He will always be right there by your side. He will be missed by all who knew him and by the ones whose lives he touched.

There was not a lot of days that went by in the Newfield community that you did not see Herb's face. He was always active and always interacting with the students while helping out at the school. You never saw him with out a smile on his face. You could always tell it was more then just helping out at the school. It was what kept him so youthful and his passion for the community never went unnoticed. One memory that always comes to mind is when Herb was taking me and his grandchild Matt over to a baseball game and was trying to figure out what my name was. It went something like this. Hey what's your name? "bryce". Huh? " Bernice?" No BRYCE. Huh? "BERNICE?". This went on for about ten minutes and well he won. My name to Herb from that day on was Bernice. My sympathy goes out to the Emery's and Newfield community. He will be missed by all!

My fondest memory of Herb was when he would come in to the elementary Cafe kitchen to get the "PIG PAIL" and sneak up behind me, just to see me jump, I'd turn around and there was Herb with that big smile. He'd say "what are you jumping for" I never heard him behind me all those years. the little sneak, always up to something, Such a Happy Guy who will be missed, My thought are with you all.

My deepest sympathies to the Emery family. Think of Newfield and you think of Herb Emery. I remember my years growing up there and his presence around the school and the town. Last year when I came home to visit my brother, I happened to see Herb at the Elmira-Corning Airport. It was the first time I had seen him in many years, but he was the same old Herb Emery! He will be greatly missed.

Herbie was a very thoughtful person..He will be greatly missed..We got the chance to visit with him a few years ago..Arlene came up the same time we came up, we all got together at his house, it has been along time since I seen him..we had a good visit and I am glad I got to see him..Our thoughts and prayers are with the family..
