Herbert Gutpelet Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 15, 2025.
Herbert J. Gutpelet, 83, of Maple Glen, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, August 26th, with his wife, sister, son, and daughter-in-law by his side.

Born in Osijek, Yugoslavia (present-day Croatia) on January 4, 1942, to the late Alexander and Rosalie (Pavlakowich) Gutpelet. He emigrated with his family to Philadelphia in 1952 and graduated from Cardinal Dougherty High School in 1960. He went on to attend Temple University, where he also played football.

Herb served honorably in the military before building a successful career as a businessman, founding and managing multiple ventures across a range of industries. A skilled golfer, Herb found great joy on the course and cherished the game throughout his life. He and his wife, Susie, spent winters in Naples, Florida, where he continued to enjoy the sport and the sunshine.

Herb was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 2015. With unwavering courage and grace, he faced the challenges of this illness for over a decade. Alongside his devoted wife, Susie, Herb met each day with strength, resilience, and determination that inspired everyone around him.

He is survived by his loving wife, Susanne Gutpelet; his son, James Gutpelet (Elizabeth); his grandchildren, Brigitte and James; his son Steve Gutpelet; his stepchildren Trisha Hall (Chris) and William Sutphen (Michele), along with their children Emma Hall, William Sutphen, and Eliza Hall; and his sister, Heidi Dockhorn, and niece Andrea.

A celebration of Herb's life will be held at a later date.
