Herbert L. Haskins

Herbert L. Haskins, age 96, of Sturgis, MI passed away Sunday, July 17, 2016 at Thurston Woods Village. He was born April 2, 1920 in Springfield Twp., LaGrange County, Indiana a son to the late Louis and Minnie (Keller) Haskins. On November 14, 1945 in Angola, Indiana he married Margaret Robbins. She preceded him in death March 16, 1989. Herb attended Mongo High School, served in the U.S. Navy, and was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps. He moved to Burr Oak, MI in 1947 from Ft. Wayne, Indiana and moved to Sturgis in 1989. He was a farmer and was employed by Formed Tubes for 32 ½ years and retired from Rood Industries in 1982. Herb was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Sturgis. Surviving are 2 daughters: Evelyn (Steve) Wolf and Edith (Dave) Stuart all of Sturgis, MI; 4 grandchildren: Christopher (Jessica) Stuart of New Hudson, MI, Carrie (James) Degitz of Sturgis, Melissa (Shane) Shidler of Edwardsburg, MI, and Matthew (Becky) Wolf of Pewaukee, WI; 10 great-grandchildren: Lauren, Evan, and Colin Stuart of Hew Hudson, MI, Ava and Oliver Stewart and Stella Degitz all of Sturgis, Naylee and Ryla Shidler of Edwardsburg, MI and Brady and Austin Wolf of Pewaukee, WI; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife: Margaret; a great-grandson: Wesley Wolf; a brother: Fred Haskins; 3 half brothers: Edmond, Bill, and Dick Huss; 2 half sisters: Florence Juday and Bessie Haskins. The family will receive friends and relatives from 12:00 noon – 2:00 P.M., Thursday, at the Rosenberg Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 807 E. Chicago Rd., Sturgis, MI 49091. Services celebrating the life of Herbert L. Haskins will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, immediately following the visitation at the funeral home with the Rev. Bob Keim, officiating. Graveside services and interment will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery.
