March 23, 1927 - September 15, 2025

Dana Point resident Herbert ("Herb") Gerton Hueg, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many, passed away peacefully on September 15, 2025, at the age of 98.

Born in Buffalo, New York, to Danish immigrants Sven and Siri Hueg, Herb grew up in Gardena and Montebello in East Los Angeles. He had one older brother, Arthur Hueg of Camarillo, who preceded him in death in 1996.

A graduate of Montebello Senior High School in 1945, Herb enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps near the end of World War II with hopes of becoming a pilot. When the war ended, he was instead stationed in Guam and served as a Corporal in the 56th Air Engineer Squadron, assisting with the post-war cleanup on the island. He was honorably discharged in 1947 after surviving a serious case of pneumonia.

Upon returning home, Herb attended Los Angeles City College and later graduated from Cal State Los Angeles in 1951 with a degree in accounting. He earned his CPA license but soon discovered his true passion lay in meeting people and building relationships-leading him to a successful career in sales. For over 20 years, he worked at Rockford Screw Products in the City of Industry, supplying fasteners to businesses across Los Angeles, Orange, and San Diego counties.

After being laid off in 1984, Herb founded his own company, Hueg Sales Co., which continued to serve small and mid-sized manufacturing clients for many years-including one of his favorites, the Rickenbacker guitar factory in Santa Ana. He retired in 2008, having built a legacy of integrity, hard work, and service.

In 1957, Herb married the love of his life, Mildred ("Millie") Marie Farrell Hueg, in Santa Monica. The couple moved from Los Angeles to Garden Grove in 1961, where they started their family. Their two sons were born at Martin Luther Hospital in Anaheim. In 1972, fulfilling a lifelong dream of living by the ocean, they moved to Dana Point, where they remained in their cherished home on Blue Lantern until August 2025.

Herb and Millie were avid folk dancers and longtime members of the Gandy Dance Group and Laguna Beach Folk Dancers. Together, they shared a love of the outdoors-camping, canoeing, and taking their children on many memorable adventures along the Colorado River.

Herb is survived by his devoted wife of 68 years, Millie Hueg; his son Eric Hueg, daughter-in-law Elizabeth Zeek Hueg, and granddaughter Ella Day Hueg of San Clemente; and his son Kurt Hueg, daughter-in-law Helen Walker Hueg, and granddaughter Siri Walker Hueg of Redwood City.

Herb will be remembered for his warmth, curiosity, generosity, and unwavering love for his family. He lived a life rich with experiences, friendships, laughter, and grace.
