Jake's Family
I served aboard USS Grouper with Jake. He was a fellow electrican and I spent alot of time playing polker with him in the yards in Philly. I saw him at the reunion in New London. I am sure you will miss him very much.

Dear Family,
I served with "Jake" aboard USS GROUPER AGSS214 in 1968 and I got to finally meet up with him again a few years ago when Grouper had the reunion in New London, concurrent with the USSVI National Convention. I remember saying to him that "you probably don't remember me", and he cut me off saying, "sure, I remember you". I asked him at that time if he still had the old Klaxon diving alarm that he won in a raffle when we were on the Decommissioning Crew, and he said yes. At the Grouper Reunions I am always the youngest of the group. I was the last man to qualify aboard and Jake was very instrumental in making sure that I knew the systems that he was in charge of signing off on. He was tough but fair and it took me a couple of times before I got it right in his estimation. I will always remember him talking about going to the Big A to see a race, smoking big cigars back in the Maneuvering Room while he sat in his shorts under a ducted ventilation port trying to cool off in that ever-hot working space. When we operated in the Bermuda Triangle it was always hotter than normal. Jake was always held in high regard by me and all aboard. He was quick of wit and could generate a smile as quickly as deliver one. He will be missed by this sailor, but alas, I know that I will meet up with him again where the streets are paved with gold. God Bless you and yours in your time of sorrow. Ever your friend through Jake.... Jim Schenk, ETR3(SS)

Joanne and Family,
I am so sorry to hear about your loss. Jake is in the best of hands now and is able to look out for all of us. He was a very good friend to my father and he always looked out for him, and I greatly appreciate that. God Bless.
