To the extended family of Herbert Thomas Kirk.
My wife Helene and I extend our deep and heartfelt condolences to all of you in the grievous loss of your loved one, the head of the family, at what is considered a young age by today's standards. It truly came as a shock to both of us!
Herb and I have been close friends for many long years because of our connection in the Genera.l Insurance Business, and because of our association in the Honorable Order of the Blue Goose, International.
We also have a connection in other ways. We both started our careers in working for insurance companies and later became Insurance Agents. Other very close friends also were involved, one being Bill Jardine , who was the first to become an agent by buying out an existing agent on Main Street which he later sold to Herb. Another close friend and ex- company man was Frank Petura, who also shared space in Bill Jardine's office, as an agent. In 1970. the company I worked for, as Bracnh Manager, decided to leave Canada and as I did not want to go to Denver, Colorado, I quit and and started my own agency, called John Ross Insurance Service, Ltd.. I bought a very small agency on west Broadway, near Burrard. Street, The building had been sold so I moved in with Bill Jardine , at his invitation as a dear friend. Six months later , I bought out an other agency on Broadway just 3 stores west of Burrard Street and move in, August 1971. Some fourteen years later, Herb wanted to buy my agency but I was not ready to sell yet. Not too long later, he bought my friend, Bill Jardine's business. I may be a bit out on dates and timing.
For years later, Frank Petura, Herb Kirk and I attended Blue Goose lunches and meetings together, usually in New Westminster . We went in one car!
Herb was born in Kelowna and raised in Vernon I was born near Revelstoke and was raised ans schooled there, until I joined the army on June 22, 1940. I had a lot of experience in Vernon over the years and it was almost like a second home to me.
Or deep regrets on you loss and my loss of a very dear friend.
Helene and John Ross
