Herbert McWilliams Pickett

Herb was a competitive scientist in my field of molecular spectroscopy and interstellar molecular identification. He was very good at this effort but so was I! So Herb, I salute you in your efforts! You made a big difference in our field, which is saying a lot! Go in peace.

Herb was a valued member of First Parish and we will all miss his smile and wit and wisdom. Although I knew him only these last 7 years since moving to Dover, Herb made a big impact on me. Nancy, you and the family are in my prayers. I am so sorry for the loss of such a wonderful man. Sandi Potter

Herb and I lost touch lately, but from his early times at JPL I have the fondest memories of his good cheer and his grace. He was kindness itself to brash upstarts like myself.

It was a great privilege to have worked with Herb for 3 decades, and to have been his friend. Herb was a rare gentle genius - possibly the most brilliant person I ever worked closely with. He greatly enriched all our lives through both his gracious gentle character and his tremendous capabilities (in so many aspects of science and engineering). Herb will sorely be missed by all his many friends and colleagues.

Dear Nancy, James, and other members of the Pickett family,
We are so sorry to hear of Herb's passing. Herb was of course a brilliant scientist, but we really remember him as the *nicest* scientist at JPL. He loved his family greatly, and we send our deepest sympathy to you all.

I am remembering being at a family reunion when Melanie was climbing on and off Herb's lap. I like this memory in my mind of Grampa Herb! Not sure who was happier, Herb or Melanie!
