Herbert Stewart Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 31, 2018.
Missionary / Evangelist Herbert Stewart, 86 went on to his Heavenly home on the afternoon of Wednesday, October 31, 2018. Herb had a passion for his grandchildren and his greatest desire was for each and every one of them to live a life for Christ. Herb traveled the globe with the Good News of the Gospel of Christ, both sharing and showing the love of Christ. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Herb's vocations through the years included farmer, salesman, pastor, and finally finding his true calling as a missionary for Christ. He pastored several churches and was the founder and president of New Harvest Ministries International. Over the past 50 years, he traveled many times to Russia, Africa, India, Europe, Cuba, The Caribbean and much of the USA and Canada. His passion was spreading the good news of the Gospel of Christ. This included not only telling the good news but showing this good news. This was accomplished through the building of Churches, orphanages, schools, Bible Colleges, drilling of fresh water wells and planting crops as a renewable source of support. Untold thousands of people across the globe heard the Good News of the Gospel of Christ from Herb's lips. He is now reaping the eternal reward of his labors. In 1959, Herb met Jean Martin while she was attending nursing school in Banbridge, Ireland. The two of them fell for each other and were married in 1962. They initially lived in Belfast, Northern Ireland then moved to nearby Lisburn, before relocating to the USA. After receiving a pastoral call from Faith Temple Christian Center in 1974, he emigrated to Holland, Michigan. Herb, Jean and their five children, sold all they had and headed to the USA. Shortly after arriving, child number six Paul, was born. Herb remained closely connected to his birthplace. Herb and his siblings shared some wonderful memories together this past spring. They vacationed for a week along the shores of Lake Michigan. He was preceded in death by his parents Adam and Martha Stewart and siblings, John Stewart, Anna Cummings, Samuel Stewart, Victor Stewart, Isabel Watt and in-laws Beatrice Stewart, Christine Stewart, Edgar Larmour, Richard Cummings and Marjorie Stewart Herb is survived by his loving wife Jean, their six children and spouses, 18 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild: Derek & Cheryl Stewart of Holland, and their children, Jessica Stewart of Holland, Jennifer, Jadon and great-grandson James Bouma of Zeeland and Stephen Stewart of Grand Haven; Valerie & David Stegink of Zeeland and their children, Stephanie, Angela and Tiffany; Martin "Bill" & Carol Stewart of Holland and their children, Ryan and Ashley; Janice & Brian Geary of Zeeland and their children, Andrew, Elizabeth and Ethan; Ruth & Kendall DeLange of Zeeland and their children, Kirsten and Alex Slagh of Zeeland, Cameron of Zeeland, Zachary of San Francisco, CA and Taylor of New York, NY; Paul & Katie Stewart of Zeeland and their children, Zander, Gavin and Dylan. His brothers, Kenneth Stewart, Mervyn Stewart and Dr. Cecil Stewart OBE and his in-laws, Mrs. Esther Stewart BEM, Evelyn Stewart, Margaret Stewart, Doreen Stewart, Desmond Watt, Rene Larmour, Evelyn and Jim Greacen, Hilda and Connal Harris, Audrey and Bert Hill and many, many nieces and nephews. Jean and the entire Stewart Family, I was saddened to hear that Mr. Stewart (Herbie) had passed. Please except my sympathies for your loss and may God continue to bring peace and comfort to your souls. I know that he is elated to be with his savior and reunited with family and friends; my parents being among the many.

He and your family were a large part of my sister and my life as children; from listening to him on his radio show, to being a part of his ministry, locally. I am thankful that God saw fit for our families to cross paths and to be a part of each other's lives for a time. Herbie was a great man of God, a good father and a light to all he met and influenced. His heavenly rewards are no doubt unfathomable and he was welcomed with open arms as a good and faithful servant of God.

Much love to all the Stewart family and God Bless you, forever.

Our deepest sympathies to Jean and all of your family.

Herb taught us so much about who Jesus is and he was so encouraging. We loved attending his tent meeting over 30 years ago in GR - being with him was very special to us.

I'll never forget hearing his voice at "the new church" we were attending soon after our conversions - the voice of the man we heard on the radio! We so enjoyed listening to his program.

May the peace of God cover your family at this time. Pete and Julia Fetters

I sensed his heart for God and his heart for people more than a decade before I ever met him in person. Enjoyed my time with him and was greatly inspired by him to do what was in my heart for the Saviour. He will be greatly missed and he is certainly , one of my favorite people of all time. Prayers of comfort from the God of all comforts to Jean, the family and all who have experienced the love of Christ thru our Herb. Be blessed.

Dear Auntie Jean and family
We were all saddened to hear of the death of Uncle Herbie! He was a truly inspirational man and a great example of a disciple of Jesus. I will remember him of what he has done by preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ and winning precious souls. Behind this man is his wife Auntie Jean who had stood by him all these years supporting him and encouraging him. God bless you Auntie Jean! May you find comfort at this time knowing that Uncle Herbie is up in heaven with the Lord. As the Psalm 23 says The Lord is my Shepherd I shall not want..... from Jim & Evelyn Greacen, Alan & Lucinda Greacen & family, David & Janette Greacen & family and Brian & Arlene Morrow & family

Deeply saddened to learn of this news this morning but comforted by the assurance that Herb is rejoicing with his Saviour. Herb visited Mountain Lodge Pentecostal Church in Northern Ireland regularly almost since its beginning 65 hears ago and for as long as health permitted, he love to return each year to share of the mission work he was called to. Herb will always be remembered by his friends at 'The Lodge' as he referred it and we continue to use his book 'The Mighty Hand of God'.
We convey our deepest sympathy to his wife Jean and to all the family circle at this time.
May the Lord be with you all.

We met Herb Stewart when he visited our church up in Northern Wisconsin back in the late 1960's. We have been close friends with him and Jean since that time. He was a great man of God and mightily used of God in his ministry. Revelation 14:13 says "Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord...that they may rest from their labors and their works do follow them." Truly this can be said of our friend Herb Stewart.
Love and prayers to Jean and all the family. Pastors Bob and Glenyce Doorn.
