Edward DelGiorno Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 16, 2025.
Edward Joseph DelGiorno passed away peacefully on Saturday August 23, 2025 in Clearwater, FL. Born on New Year's Day in 1960 in Queens, New York to Joseph Edward DelGiorno and the late Joan DelGiorno (Divona, 1989), Ed was the fifth of eight children in the DelGiorno family. He loved being part of a big Italian American family and all that came with it.

Ed was raised in East Rockaway, New York where he developed and cultivated his love of all things sports. He played baseball, football, and basketball both in and out of school and could watch any athletic event with great interest and enthusiasm, regardless of who was playing or the significance of the game. Ed's passion for sports and the teams he followed was infectious. He also enjoyed great food and developed an interest in the hospitality industry early in life. Ed could describe a good meal in colorful detail as well as anyone on the Food Network. He had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh.

After graduating from East Rockaway High School a year early at age 17, Ed entered the United States Air Force where he would hone his culinary skills preparing meals for hundreds of fellow service men and women each day. Ed spent much of his early career in the hospitality industry in a variety of capacities and in 1986, realized a longtime dream when he and his former wife, Toni Scarlata, opened DelGiorno's Italian Deli in the Orlando area, bringing the tastes and traditions of New York style delis to the Sunshine State. His career would take a number of twists and turns over the years, but DelGiorno's Deli will always stand out as a special achievement.

Ed and Toni had one child together, Chelsea DelGiorno, and Ed took enormous pride in Chelsea's impressive educational and career accomplishments. He loved her dearly.

Ed struggled throughout his adult life with a variety of challenges and issues that impacted his health, curtailed his career, and affected his personal relationships. Through it all, he endured. His family and friends will miss him greatly and take great solace in the knowledge that he is at peace and in a better place.

Ed is survived by his daughter Chelsea, his former wives, Toni Scarlata and Kim Boardman, his father Joseph DelGiorno, five siblings, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother, Joan DelGiorno (Divona), his sister, Geralyn Gleason, and his brother, Stephen DelGiorno.

A funeral mass will be held at noon on Friday, September 19th at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church at 2281 State Road 580 in Clearwater, Florida 33763.

I am so sorry to learn of Ed´s passing. Prayers and condolences from the Sanders family. I will always remember him as a nice kid - we met in 6th grade in St. Raymond´s and he befriended me when I was the new kid in school.
