Herschel Sizemore Obituary
August 6, 1935 - September 9, 2022
Herschel L. Sizemore, 87, of Roanoke went home to be with the Lord on Friday, September 9, 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Rebecca Dennis Sizemore. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters making him the last survivor in a family of ten. He was also preceded by a granddaughter, Haley Hawthorne; and a great-granddaughter, Aisha Walrond.
Surviving is his wife of 68 years, Joyce Sizemore; children, Charlotte (Mike) Bishop, Tamba (Ralph) Agee, Lee (Vickie) Sizemore; grandchildren, Dusty Davis, Sara Davis (Kyle) Duncan, Jenni Bishop (Jordan) Ramey, Matt Walrond, Steven Walrond, Jacob Agee, Cheyenna Agee, Drew (Savannah) Sizemore, Michael (Bri) Sizemore, Garrett Carter; ten great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Thursday, September 15, 2022 at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road by Pastor Andy Woods. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 until 9 p.m. on Wednesday at Simpson Funeral Home. 540-366-00707

Herschel and I traveled many miles while playing with Junior Sisk and Ramblers Choice. Herschel was a great friend to me on so many levels! When I had my gallbladder removed, Herschel called me every day for two weeks while I recovered. He was a fantastic Master of the mandolin and is responsible for many of our current crop of great players. My prayers are with Joyce, Lee and the rest of the family. Herschel will be remembered as one of the best to ever play the mandolin in bluegrass music! Rest easy my friend.....

So sad to hear this. Herschel was special. We met through a mutual friend C.E. Ward when I was 16. We later taught together at several music camps over the years and played many of the same Bluegrass festivals. I will miss him. Unfortunately I can´t attend the service due to eye surgery this week. My deepest condolences to Joyce and the family.
