Hilary Smith Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 19, 2024.
Hilary M. Smith, (50), of Salinas, CA, passed away peacefully on August 7th, 2024, surrounded by family and friends.

Hilary loved spending time with her family, was a dedicated friend, and passionate Disney enthusiast. She enjoyed reading fantasy novels, loved animals, wine tasting, good movies, and laughter. She loved her family and friends fiercely and was happiest when surrounded by them. She always had a smile, an optimistic outlook, and a warm, joyful presence.

After graduating from Salinas High School in 1992, she went on to earn her Bachelor's in Recreation, Parks and Tourism Administration at Cal Poly University, San Luis Obispo, CA. She later went on to receive her ECE Early Childhood Education teaching credential from Hartnell College, Salinas, CA.

Hilary was devoted to working with children throughout her entire career, in every position she held. Ultimately, she found her calling and true passion to be working in the area of early childhood development. Over the course of her career, she held positions at the Salinas YMCA, Notre Dame High School, San Benancio Middle School, Toro Park Elementary School, and most recently the Monterey Road Child Development Center; Child & Youth Services, US Army. It was here she touched the lives of countless children with her compassion and dedication.

Hilary fought her battle against cancer with unwavering courage for six years. Despite spending much of that time in treatment, she never lost her infectious smile. Throughout her entire journey, she spread joy, made everyone laugh, and showed remarkable strength. Her humor and warmth will be truly missed by those who were lucky enough to have crossed her path. She will leave a unique imprint on all our lives.

She is survived by her mother Cyndee Secondo (King), step father Mitch Secondo, sister Melissa Smith, step siblings: Kellie Secondo, Scott Secondo, Joe Secondo, and Eric Secondo.

She was predeceased by her father Richard Smith and survived by his wife Bonnie Smith and half sisters: Willie Fisher (Smith), Christine Smith, Savannah Smith, AJ Smith, and step siblings Anna Snyder and Matt Snyder.

Additionally, she is survived by many other extended family members; aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and cherished friends.

A Celebration of Life will take place at her parent's house on Saturday, September 14th at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Give Kids The World Village at https://give.gktw.org/fundraiser/5697049.
