Hilda Starling

Hilda Rooks Starling, 88, died Monday, June 2, 2014, at Abercorn Rehabilitation Center. She was born Pembroke, Georgia, on February 1, 1926. She lived in Newcastle, Delaware, for many years before moving to Savannah. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leila and Frederick Rooks, a stepdaughter, Cindy Men, one sister, Ruby Santiago, and five brothers, Cecil, Leonard, Ted, Truman, and Frank Rooks.She is survived by her husband of 33 years, Jasper N. Starling of Savannah; six sons, Doug Burkhalter (Patsy) of Savannah, Ken Janeka (Joan) of Middletown, Delaware, Ted Janeka (Carol) of Wilmington, Delaware, Tom Janeka (Denise) of Smyrna, Delaware, Don Janeka of Delaware, Ed Thomas (Ali) of Thomasville, Georgia, a stepdaughter, Brenda Pennington (George) of Savannah, a stepson Gil McGinn of Savannah, a sister-in-law, Bernice Rooks of Zephyrhills, Florida, seventeen grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held at 12pm noon on Thursday, June 5 at Fairhaven Funeral Home, Hubert C. Baker Chapel, with Pastor Larry Speir officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior.
