Hildegard Maria Hicks

Blythewood: Hildegard M. Hicks, 84, widow of James D. "Jim" Hicks passed away Saturday, April 23, 2011, at home after a brief illness, surrounded by her loving family.

Mrs. Hicks was born on August 7, 1926, in Kempten, Germany to the late Theresia Schwelger. Prior to her marriage, Mrs. Hicks was a laboratory assistant in Germany. She arrived in America in 1957, as a war bride. After her marriage, Mrs. Hicks became a fulltime homemaker.

Mrs. Hicks is survived by her children, Dorothy Hicks, Alice Hicks LeGrand, Brenda Hicks Torres (Oscar), Theresa Hicks Guyton and James Stephen Hicks (Michele). She had eleven grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; all of Blythewood. She also leaves behind her beloved cats; Tiger, Lucky, and Precious. She was preceded in death by her brother, Peter Manfred Schwelger and sister, Rita Antonia Nuding.

A funeral service for Mrs. Hicks will be held 3:30 o'clock, Wednesday, April 27, 2011, at Shives Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel. Burial will follow at Memorial Gardens of Columbia, 9301 Wilson Blvd. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 until 8 o'clock at the funeral home.

The family also wishes to Thank Dr. Steven Barnett for his wonderful care of our mother over the years. We also want to thank the wonderful people of Care Pro Health. Special thanks to Tracey Carter, Demitrius Young, and Andrea Alexander for helping our mother pass with peace, love, and dignity.
