Ho Tom Obituary

Ho Sing Tom
Sadness fills our hearts as we regretfully announce the passing of Ho Sing Tom of Dartmouth, NS. Ho passed away on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at the Queen Elizabeth II hospital with his loving wife, Shauna by his side. His sudden illness was very unexpected. Ho was a treasured husband, father, son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend to many. Born in Halifax, NS on June 21, 1967, Ho was the beloved son of Tsui Jun Tom and the late Hong Ten Tom.

He is survived by his loving wife Shauna MacNeil and their two beautiful young children, Declan (6) and Eva (2) who were the lights of his life. He is also survived by his talented daughter, Rena Tom (20), from a previous marriage. Ho loved his family more than anything and he will be deeply missed by Shauna, Declan, Eva and Rena.

Ho is survived by his mother Tsui Jun Tom, brother Lok Sing Tom (Yang), of Halifax, sister Faling Cheng (Edison) of Seattle, WA, Laling Tom (Gary Smith), of Halifax; sister, Suling Yuen (Lawrence) of Vancouver, BC and Meling Campbell (Michael) of Halifax. Ho was a much loved and fun loving uncle to Gloria Cha (Dae), Bowen, Sarah, Anne, Samantha, Tom, Jennifer, Jonathan, Harrison, Matthias, Solana, Alexis, Madeline, Hugh and Elizabeth.

Ho was an exceptional entrepreneur who ran several businesses including PC Medic and most recently Doctor Tech. He started working when he was just 9 years old, helping his hard working parents who owned Robie Foods in Halifax. Throughout high school and university, he worked at Greco Pizza and then Pizza Hut. He found his true passion working in technology when he started at True North Computers.

He graduated from Queen Elizabeth High and Dalhousie University with a Bachelor of Science degree. He was an active member of The Hum Society, The Chinese Benevolent Society and the St. Clements/St. Andrews Refugee Committee.

Nothing in life gave Ho more pleasure than his family. Just last week, Ho proudly watched Declan perform in a break dancing competition. He cheered loudly for his only son. Declan looked up to his dad in so many ways – he was his superhero. His daughter Eva made Ho's eyes light up. He loved her spitfire personality and often said how glad he was that she was an independent woman at 2. Through many stories, Declan and Eva will know about their father's beautiful heart, kindness, compassion, leadership, business-savvy and how he made a difference in the lives of everyone he met.

Ho's first daughter Rena held a special place in his heart. Several years ago, he bought Rena a dress in Florida. When she walked out, his eyes all filled up with tears. Ho was so proud of Rena's artistic talents. He proudly displayed her artwork in his family home.

Ho brought family together with his love of cooking. He and Shauna often hosted gatherings for family and friends where Ho's cooking took centre stage. His love for cooking stems from growing up in a family where food was celebrated, enjoyed and made with love.

We would like to thank the doctors and nurses at the Dartmouth General and the QEII who fought so hard for Ho during his brief illness. The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Sarah McMullen and his nurse Kara who both went above and beyond in their care of Ho. The family would also like to thank Father Gerald David for his love and support.

Donations may be made to the St. Clement's/St. Andrew's Refugee Committee, or St. Clement's St. Vincent de Paul Society or a charity of your choice.

Funeral arrangements are at the direction of Cruikshank's Funeral Home. Visitation will take place at Cruikshank's Funeral Home on Thursday, June 21 on 2666 Windsor Street, Halifax from 2-4 and 6-9 pm.

Funeral Services for Ho Sing Tom will be held on Friday, June 22 at 10 am at St. Clement's Parish (16 Gaston Road, Dartmouth) with Father David officiating. Internment will take place following a reception at the church service at Oakridge Memorial Gardens in Lower Sackville.

Where does one begin to describe what a lovely man Ho was.......he touched so many lives both in and out of the computer industry. I had many dealings with him and each and every time he was called upon, he delivered with a smile. I am sad knowing that this world is now without him. Rest in peace Ho for you were loved.

I was so shocked and saddened to hear about Ho, he was truly a computer wizard, but more than that he was an incredible person, he sure will be missed around our office. I hope his family takes comfort in knowing how special he was and how much of an impact he made.

I only met Ho a few times at work, but we chatted when our kids were in the same gymnastics class for awhile. He was always friendly and such a nice guy. I'm so sorry to hear he is gone. Thinking about you all, even though we really don't know each other well. Hold on to all your wonderful memories and love.

Shauna, our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time. We are so saddened by the situation. Just last week, when he picked you up at work for lunch in your new car, the enthusiasm for life and love between you were so obvious. May you find the incredible strength that is within you.

On behalf of my self and all the staff at Maritime Insurance on Oxford Street, we are extremely saddened to have heard of Ho's unexpected passing. I've have known Ho for over 20 year's in a professional capacity having bought my first computer from him for our office at True North. Since day one (1) he was the only person we would trust to look after our computer issues in the office. Of course knowing someone that long you can't help but to get to know them personally and discuss many other things unrelated to business, most often family. There is no doubt his love for his family was priority, and many times he mentioned how proud he was of his children and love he had for them all. Shauna, Mrs. Tom, kids and family we hope that the your pain you are are feeling at this time can somehow be lessened by the great memories you hold in your minds and your hearts. Our Deepest Sympathy .. Paul Gray
