I never met your mother, but today I purchased the steamer trunk she bought in 1942, with a little piece of provenance written by her. It says, "I (Holly Galloway) purchased this trunk in 1942 while I was working for Boeing as an inspector of Anson plane spar wings in Vancouver. I married George Lorne Metcalfe in May of 1944 and moved to Calgary. The trunk was sent to Lorne's mother's (Janet Metcalfe) home, 1305 - 11 Street (South) West. It has stayed in Alberta since that time." It's dated June 2000, and signed Holly Metcalfe. I bought it in Enderby, BC (I'm here visiting friends), but will be taking it back to Chilliwack with me. I loved the trunk when I first looked at it, but it was the little piece of provenance that clinched the deal - that small bit of personal history.

I'm very sorry for your loss. Holly Metcalfe sounds like an amazing woman, and I will always have an extra fondness for this trunk, knowing where it came from and why that address is painted on the top of the trunk.

I was thinking of my mother when I awoke this morning, and her love of art. My mom Jocelan took some classes with Holly many years ago and admired her very much. I did too and that´s how I ended up with a couple of her paintings. One of the first things I see when I open my eyes is one of Holly´s watercolours. So I googled of course (a Sunday morning thing to do when you delay getting up) and discovered she and my mom passed away within days of each other in 2018.

My belated sincere condolences to the family. Her art still brings me joy and the knowledge that she imparted to my mom lives on in the bits and pieces I have of my mom´s portfolio as well.

Holly was a wonderful friend and a beautiful soul. My daughter Erin and I met her when we signed up for water color classes in Calgary many years ago. I have thought of her often over the years and admire her paintings everyday as I have several hanging in my house. She was a true inspiration. My condolences to the family and I keep you all in my prayers. Laurie Paynter

She was an amazing woman. We offer thanks for the warmth she added to our lives as a neighbour in Scenic Acres. Her artwork will continue to be part of our lives and memories. Harold and Loeta Black, Calgary
