Hope (Sue) McLeod Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 9, 2025.
Hope Yvonne McLeod (Sue), of Aurora, IL went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on June 21, 2025 at her residence, The Alden Courts of Waterford, in Aurora, IL. She was 84 years of age. She was born in Peoria, IL on July 28, 1940.

Sue is survived by her loving children, Sonya Shay, Mindy (Gerry) LaShure, and Ted (Marybeth) Shay, her grandchildren, Jacqueline Proffit and Daniel Jasper; Nevada (Brian)Toner, Jacob (Abby) LaShure, Christina Shay, Danielle Shay, Noah (Sabina) Dickey, as well as her great-grandchildren, Jeanetta and Jania Williams, Brian, Kamden and Aubree Toner, and Elizabeth and Benjamin LaShure.

She also leaves behind two beloved sisters, Kathy (William) King, Sandi (Denny) Eberle, and one brother, LtCol Dennis W Sturm, (Ret), (Heidi).

She was proceeded in death by her husband Ronald McLeod, her loving parents Guy and Violet Simmons, her sister Sonja Sturm and brother, Bobbie Sturm.

In her life, Sue was a devoted woman of faith whose greatest dream was to meet her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Her well-worn Bible, full of underlined verses and heartfelt notes, told the story of a soul who clung to God's promises. She cherished scripture and delighted in memorizing passages-not just for knowledge, but as love letters to the Savior she adored. Sue lived her life with the intention that Jesus would always know she loved Him with all her heart.

But Sue was more than just a woman of deep faith-she was full of joy, quick wit, and a sparkling sense of humor. She laughed often and most freely at herself. One of her favorite joys in life was gathering with her beloved girlfriends, donning fabulous red hats, and heading out for lunch dates filled with laughter and lightheartedness. Fellowship brought her joy, and she cherished the time spent with her larger church family, sharing stories, playing cards, and creating memories that stretched well into the evening hours.

Of all the blessings in Sue's life, her greatest treasure was her family-especially her grandchildren. She loved each one fiercely and prayed over them constantly, her deepest desire being that they would walk closely with the Lord. Her prayers were steady and sincere, asking God to guard their hearts and guide their steps through life's trials and triumphs.

Yet with her grandkids, Sue wasn't all seriousness-she was a playmate, cheerleader, and storyteller. Whether pitching a whiffle ball in the backyard, cheering from the sidelines, or simply sitting and chatting about life, Sue found pure joy in their presence. She marveled at their talents, celebrated their victories, and offered unwavering encouragement no matter the season of life. In her eyes, her grandchildren were the heartbeat of the world, and anyone could see the love that flowed so freely between them.

Sue's life was a beautiful testimony of faith, fun, and fierce devotion. She leaves behind a legacy of laughter, prayer, and unconditional love-one that will echo through generations.

Sue's family is planning a 'Celebration of Life' event on July 26, 2025 at 1:00pm at Rock Solid Christian Fellowship, 131 Montgomery Road, Montgomery, Illinois 60538. Sue's son in law, Pastor Gerry LaShure, will be officiating.

I'm so blessed to have had such a wonderful grandma, 'memaw' my entire life. She taught unconditional love, forgiveness & faith. Whenever things were rocky Memaw could sail through the storm. A true women of Christ that keeps my faith alive because of the values she stored within the family. You mean so much to so many people & have left an impression on so many hearts that will never fade. I love you!

Oh, my sweet mother.. we were so blessed that the good Lord gave you to us for so long! You are my best friend all my life and you always told me the truth no matter how hard it was to do that. You also held my secrets so close to your heart. I am forever grateful for all the lessons that you taught me, for the prayers that you prayed for me, for the times that you held my hand because life was really tough, and for helping me to learn about God. You were always there for me and I'll never forget that, ever! If I could be half the mother to my own kids that you were to me, I will consider my life lived well. Thank you Lord...for her.
