Horace Howell Obituary

Horace Nixon Howell, age 90 of Upper Pittsgrove, died Friday, December 17, 2004 in South Jersey Health Care - Elmer Hospital. He had been a resident of Mater Dei Nursing Home for the past year.

Born in Upper Pittsgrove, he was the son of the late Edmund O. and Estella Garrison Howell.

Mr. Howell was a 1934 graduate of Woodstown High School, where he was active in track and baseball.

After serving in the US Army during WWII, Mr. Howell worked as a chemical operator at DuPont Chambers Works in Deepwater, retiring after over 30 years of service.

He attended the First Baptist Church of Elmer, enjoyed gardening, hunting, ice skating, and was active in outdoor sports. He also enjoyed music, singing, and playing the harmonica.

Mr. Howell was predeceased by his wife, Anna (nee McAllister), in March of 1997; his son, Horace Jr.; his daughter, Delores Howell; his brother, Glendon Howell; and his sisters, Lydia Lang and Estella Griscom.

He is survived by his daughter, Carolyn Howell of Upper Pittsgrove, and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held 11 AM Wednesday, December 22nd in the H.T. Layton & Son Home For Funerals, 102 S. Main St., Woodstown, where friends are invited to call from 10 to 11 AM.

Interment will be in Greenwich Presbyterian Cemetery.

The family suggests any memorial contributions in Mr. Howell’s memory be made to the First Baptist Church of Elmer, 209 Broad St., Elmer, NJ 08318, or to CEF of Salem County, 125 S. Main St., Elmer, NJ 08318.
