Wheeler, Horace;

When 'his time was right' Dad died peacefully at home in his 92nd year. Horace is survived by his loving wife Anne of 64 years and their loving children Paul (Theresa), Jan Wright (Bruce), Val Whidden (Rod), and Greg (Kim). Cherished Poppy to Mitchell, Mallory, Natalie, Eric, Doug, Julia and Jake. Pre-deceased by his parents Amos and Jessie; step-mother Ella, his brother Jack; and daughter-in-law Debbie. Devoted brother to George (Phyllis) of Florida, step-sister Daphne of Newfoundland; half-brothers Wayne, Dwight, Gary, Dana, Blair, and half-sister Lynne and their families. He will be remembered by devoted cousin Pearl of Niagara and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Horace left Newfoundland for 'Canada' in 1948, Dad settled and worked in Niagara Falls all his life; first as a Carpenter with the Smith Bros., and later as Assistant City Building Inspector. Dad accepted a position with the Ministry of Labor as Safety Inspector in the early 70's until his retirement in 1985.
Dad was an avid sportsman and enjoyed many hunting and fishing excursions with his family and friends. Having defended our freedom in the second world war and surviving imprisonment, Dad shared his knowledge and training with many a young men as Lieutenant and CEO of the Niagara Chapter of the Sea Cadets for 12 years in the late 50's and 60's.
We wish to extend our sincere appreciation to Dr. Chong, Dr. Soliman and all the caring staff of the hemodialysis unit at OSS,SCG and Welland hospitals; as well as the staff of the Niagara Patient Transfer. Thank you for the TLC provided by the CCAC, PSW's and nurses from Red Cross and Paramed
Family and Friends will be received at Hetherington and Deans Funeral Chapel, 5176 Victoria Avenue, on Wednesday, March 7th from 2:00-4:00 & 7:00-9:00 PM. A Funeral service will take place at Christ Church, 4750 Zimmerman Ave, Niagara Falls on March 8TH , 2012 at 1:00 PM. Interment in Fairview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to Christ Church Bell Fund or Niagara Health System Foundation for Dialysis Units would be appreciated by the family.
