Howard Crow Obituary

Published by Dallas Morning News on Feb. 3, 2016.
CROW, Howard Doggett Howard Doggett Crow, son of Dallas real estate developer Trammell Crow, died Saturday January 30, 2016 at Dallas, TX at age 69. Crow was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on March 28, 1946, the second of six children to Trammell and Margaret Doggett Crow. Crow attended Armstrong Elementary School, St. Mark's School for Boys and Highland Park High School. He later graduated from Southwestern University at Georgetown where he pledged Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. He owned and operated Paige Art Gallery and the ever popular Great Pets and managed retail shops at the Anatole Hotel for many years. Crow was preceded in death by his father, Trammell Crow, his mother Margaret Doggett Crow and his brother Robert T. Crow. He is survived by his spouse Don Hodges, III; three brothers and their spouses, Harlan R. and Katherine R. Crow, Trammell S. Crow, and Stuart M. and Shirley W. Crow; one sister and her spouse, Lucy C. and Henry Billingsley; cousin Michael Crow; sisters-in-law Nancy Crow and Barbara Hunt Crow; nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, Carter Trammell Crow and his wife Julie, Robert Wade Crow and his wife Sara, Trammell Crow Hancock, Lucy Billingsley Burns and her husband Thomas, Robert Nathaniel Crow and his wife Itzel, George Harlan Billingsley and his wife Lindsay, Margaret Doggett Crow, Kathleen Crow Craig and her husband Nathaniel, Anne Sumner Billingsley, Daniel Howard Crow, Virginia Marie Crow, George Trammell Crow, Isabella Crow, Harlan Robert Crow, Margaret Crow, Sarah Katherine Crow, Carter Crow, Trammell Crow, Duncan Crow, Charlotte Hancock, Quinlan Crow, Caroline Burns, Morgan Burns, Andrew Burns, Davis Billingsley and Margaret Marie Craig. As we are each best known in our lives for our strengths, Howard is known for his huge heart and happy outlook. As his father once told him, he loved the world and was loved by the world. In high school he would pick up his friends in a London Taxi and thus began his love of cars. He loved giving nieces and nephews surprise pets from his store Great Pets. He was ready for every exotic trip and came filled with humor. The Crow family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: The Margaret and Trammell Crow Chair for Alzheimer's and Geriatric Research at Southwestern Medical Foundation, 3963 Maple Avenue, #100, Dallas, Texas 75219; The Trammell and Margaret Crow Collection of Asian Art at 2100 Flora Street, Dallas, Texas 75201; the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals; or any pet rescue organization.

In my home I have a group of photos on the wall from my trip to Alaska with Howard on the Michaela Rose. That trip was pure fun. Howard was the best host!! I will never forget his graciousness and the everfull candy closet.

Alaska with Howard on the Michalea Rose was the most fun! Howard kept us all laughing and sneaking into the candy closet. His sense of humor made him the most fun! I miss him.

My most fun memories with Howard were on the Michaela Rose in Alaska. He led our awesome troop through city after city. My photos show Howard with a giant smile. I will remember him that way.

I just learned Howard passed away. I was a caregiver for a few years, he was a favorite. He didn't like to hear singing if you can't sing. He liked western shows. Cars. Animals. He knew a lot of stuff. One thing, I noticed he was kind to everyone. He loved his family. I was fortunate to have met him, he impacted my life by knowing him.

To me Howard was one of the kindest and most loving man I've ever known in my life. He gave me great examples on how to be a better man. And how to believe in myself and run a clean business in the construction world. He had a whimsical personality that everyone loved, you will be missed by many and loved by all the new you. To the Crow family I'm so sorry for your loss and Donnie you had the greatest gift of all the gift of having him for over 28 years in your life. I know the time will be hard for you. Please let me know if you ever need anything from me.

I am sorry to learn of Howard Crow's death. He was a fine free spirit. Trammell and Margaret very proudly took Liz and me to his shop in the Anatole, where we purchase several memorable items from him. A nice person.....
