Howard Ellis

South Dennis - Howard B. Ellis, 92, passed away peacefully on his 92nd birthday. "Howie" grew up in Framingham, attended Framingham High School and graduated in 1951. Howie was a top athlete in baseball and hockey. After High School he enlisted in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and obtained the rank of Corporal. He joined the Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Union Local 3. Here he became a master in his trade and relocated his family to Cape Cod where he became a successful mason contractor during the construction boom of the 1970's and 80's.

On the weekends, Howie could be found on the golf course or enjoying a cold beer with friends. He was always quick with a joke and loved to command the center of attention in any room he was in. Making friends for him was always easy. After retirement from the trades, he split his time between Jupiter, FL and Cape Cod working at golf courses in both locations. In Florida he enjoyed time with new friends, attending spring training games and hunting for autographs of his favorite players. In 2006 he built a home and returned to living on Cape Cod year round. He was always proud to have had the privilege to have been able to live in 4 brand new homes.

In recent years he became a resident of the Lewis Gordon Senior Housing in Dennis and forged close friendships with neighbors.

Howie was married to Dolores Ellis for 36 years before divorce. He leaves behind their children Suzanne Ellis of South Yarmouth, Jacqueline Plante of West Yarmouth, and Michael Ellis and his wife Suzanne of South Yarmouth. He was the grandfather of 6 and had 3 great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his brother Ralph and his wife Janice, of Dennis and Naples, FL, his sister Brenda D'Angeli of Framingham, many nieces and nephews, and his good friend Carol Gaeta of Nashua, NH. He is predeceased by his daughter Michelle, his parents Alice and Seth Henry of West Yarmouth , his sister Jane McLellan of Yarmouth Port and her former husband Arnold McLellan, his brother-in-law Richard D'Angeli, his father and mentor, Frederick "Ted" Carter, and his good friend and former son-in-law Jimmy Verrochi.

In lieu of flowers, Howard would like you to concentrate on what is important and to play a round of golf in his memory.
