Dear Betty, Marcia and Family I read about Howard's passing in the Green & White. Please accept my sincere condolences. I will remember Howard as a great outdoors man ready for adventure. In fact just tonight I was thinking of something he once told me about packing up the family for summer caravan excursions into the States and around Canada. He thought that this was more educational and adventurous than having a cabin to attend to - that was decades ago that he told me that but I thought that there was a lot of merit to what he said. Howard was a wonderful man who lives on in the hearts and minds of those he influenced.

Dear Betty and family,
We were shocked and saddened to hear the news of
Howard's passing while we were away in Arizona. We will all
miss his presence among us. He was indeed a special
individual - an inspiration to his students, grad students,
classroom teachers and friends.
My fond memories go back to 1970 when I completed a
Master's Degree. I appreciated Howard's Graduate Courses,
class discussions and mentoring. He always impressed me
with his wide interests and knowledge - always well read,
an engaging personality for sure.
We enjoyed our association with you both during our
years with the University Women's Gourmet Club and later
with the Wilkinson Whirlers' Square Dance Club. Howard
always enriched the Dinner evenings by mentioning
interesting info related to that particular menu. And I recall
it was Howard who wrote a detailed article about ALL the
benefits of square-dancing - physically, mentally, socially
etc.! Always a THINKER!
Howard will be missed by all who knew him.
Our heartfelt condolences to you all. May you derive
comfort from your cherished memories of happy times
together.
With our love and sympathy,
Marie and Ted Hammer

Dear Betty,
It is with great sadness that we hear of Howard's passing. He was a kind and gentle man with a very inquisitive mind. We were fortunate to meet both you and Howard through the Gourmet Dinner club and have enjoyed your company throughout the years. Howard frequently brought a newspaper article to stimulate discussion at the end of the meal. He will be missed by all who knew him. Our thoughts are with you during this difficult time.
