One of the first instructors I ever had at MacEwan University in 2004. He always held an interesting class and challenged me as a writer. I told my students about him the other day as several received their first APA paper back. I appreciate his efforts now, even though I argued about grades as a young adult.

I thought that your death would become easier to bear over time, but it really hasn't. The world feels colder, harder, meaner and far less interesting without you. I am so sorry that I wasn't there for you as much as I should have been the last year of your life. You were so good and kind to me, and I will always feel that I let you down. I miss you every single day and always will. You were dearly loved by me.

Howard was my advisor when I started college at 16. He was a wonderful mentor and a great teacher. I haven't forgotten him all these years.

A brilliant and one of a kind, enormously kind man. Larger than life, and like no other. Howard mentored, challenged, and enthralled me.

As Howard's ex-wife and the mother of Alexia and Meredith, Howard was a very significant part of my life for 60 years. We remained close as he was a remarkable, intelligent, sensitive man. He was a passionate teacher and a great influence in shaping our beliefs and values of compassion and social justice. He is also remembered as a mentor and friend to so many students over the years. The world is not as kind without Howard.

I was saddened to hear of the passing of Howard Olson, a former colleague of mine at MacEwan. One term, a few years ago, I regularly had coffee with Howard after classes at MacEwan's South Campus, and he told me many stories about his life. I used to think of Howard as a great old Knight in a Shakespearean drama. He had immense natural nobility of character. A great guy!

I am full of the deepest sadness because there will never be another human being so full of generosity, understanding and kindness. My dad lived his life caring more for others than he did for himself. He was a singular expression of love in a world that has lost its moorings.
