Howard Rogovin was at The Kansas City Art Institute in Kansas City, Missouri, when I first interviewed for application in 1967. While studying there, I knew him as an inspired, dedicated painting instructor, a terrific artist and a wonderful individual. His visual sense of humor, profound intellect and wry personal philosophy run throughout his many fascinating and highly iconoclastic paintings. He and his work influenced many young artists at KCAI, and then later as painting professor at The University of Iowa. Howard was a truly fine man and artist who will be greatly missed.
