Howard was my chess teacher at Roslyn school in Montreal in 1980, he was someone that inspired me with his kind nature, humour and passion for teaching. A truly great person that I will always remember.

I am so sorry that I lost touch over the years (and miles). I send my sympathies from the other side of the country (Nova Scotia). I have many fond memories of the hours spent with Virginia (Dinny to me) and Howard at their home and in our back yards in Montreal West and with my 2nd Mom! My thoughts are with my childhood best friend.

I was very sorry to hear of Howard's passing. My brother Hal and I grew up in Montreal West across the street from each other I have so many great memories of Howard and all the fun stuff we did. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his loving family.

Howard and I taught together and he brought his smile and sense of humour to every class. He was truly interested in the students and he always wanted them to succeed. The students who played chess with him were truly inspired. Howard was a genuine human being who I valued as a friend.

I am very sorry to hear of Howard's passing. We were homeroom teaching partners at Collingwood, and I remember his kindness, sense of humour and upbeat personality. He always had a bit of wisdom to share or a story to tell, and he took a genuine interest in everyone he encountered.

I will remember many attributes of Howard, such as his warm, impish smile, and his roguish, ready sense of humour, but most of all I will remember his kindness. Nobody was quicker or more willing than he to help out a colleague in need. If any teacher or student needed help, they would go straight to Howard, knowing that he would agree immediately. He was a true people person, who always put others before himself.
