Hughie was a lifetime friend of my father and mother, Mike & Bette Baker. Alta worked several years for my father. Hughie visited my parents regularly at their Sandusky Bayside home. I always enjoyed the stories he shared after returning from visits to Ireland! He also looked in after my mother´s brother, Richard Meyer lifetime Brooklyn resident.
Many fond memories myself as after my Mother´s passing, Hughie stayed in touch with me stopping by our bayside home. I lost touch with him the last few years, but he was always in our thoughts. Especially when passing Johnson´s Island where he frequently stayed with friends late in life.
Rest in peace, Hughie.

God Speed, Hughie. You are the last of the four "Old Timers" who saved me from myself! Your unconditional love, support and understanding permitted me to have a 2nd chance at Life. When others walked on, you remained steadfast holding my hand until I could, again, walk alone. I promise to carry your exampes, lessons and memories forever. The World has truly lost an "honored guest ". Words can never describe my gratitude for the friendship we shared for decades.

A long time neighbor and friend from Brook Park. Hugh always had a kind word. He gave me an Irish CD once to learn the correct words of old Irish songs.

I met Hugh 50 years ago when he became my father in law, I always felt accepted and loved by him, he brought acceptance and a special calm to our visits as well as a lot of stories and history lessons from what he experienced growing up. He always had something encouraging to say. My perspective was usually adjusted after being with him. I will definitely miss him.
