Just found this sad obituary--I remember Dr Ayer quite well when I was a graduate student in History at North Texas State from September of 1966 to August of 1968,at which time I received my MA degree in History.

I was saddened to learn of the passing of this gentle man, who was my neighbor, friend, colleague, and mentor. Libby, Margaret. and David, I hope you can take some comfort from the fact that Hugh's life was not only long but also well-lived.
