I am very sad to read news of Hugh's death. It was my privilege to play cricket many times with him during the Sixties in Uganda where he was held in enormous respect and affection by all who knew him. To him I owe my first steps in my UK career, for without his testimonials I would never have gota job. He was quite simply the kindest and nicest man one could ever hope to meet. My warmest sympathies to Yvonne, another extraordinarily kind person. Andrew Bunbury

Hugh Dinwiddy was one of the nicest gentlemen I ever met. When he died he was Kent's oldest player and the last survivor to have played cricket against Hobbs and Bradman. In addition he was a good rugby wing forward obtaining blues at Cambridge in 1934 and 1935 and had an England trial. Derek Barnard
