Without ever having known him personally, Clark Fletcher was there (albeit in oil-covered inkjet printouts) to help a poor college kid keep his treasured 951 on the road. As a journalist, I even felt like I knew the guy a little bit through his writing, which was transparent and easygoing while sticking to business. It reminded you that, at the heart of it, he was another enthusiast who shared some of the same struggles. He demonstrated how much impact an individual can have on the lives of complete strangersand he will continue to do so through a legacy borne of hard work and passion.

I met Clark in 2005 when I was a student in license class at Three Mile Island. Clark was my GFES instructor. Those 12 weeks of class were the best of my professional career. Clark, myself, and a couple of other students played golf at least 4 days a week during that time, and my golf game had never been better. I also made a 100 on by GFES exam, so Clark must have been a pretty good instructor. We kept in touch over the years, and when it was time for me to leave TMI and head back South, Clark helped land me an instructor job at McGuire Nuclear Station, for that I will always be grateful. Clark was extremely proud of his kids, always talking about them. I'm going to miss you big guy.

While I did not have the pleasure of knowing Clark personally, he's been a companion in my garage for the last year while working on my own labor of love, a Porsche 944 Turbo. His insight and guidance has been invaluable to helping build and maintain a large international community and if this is even a sliver of the sort of legacy he leaves behind, he will be sorely missed more than I could ever express. My condolences to his entire family for his untimely and tragic passing.

Mr. Clark Fletcher,
As a member of the Porsche 944 community, I want to thank you for sharing all of your wisdom on your infamous Clark's Garage website. Your knowledge has kept many 944's on the road, including my own. My deepest condolences to your family. You were a great man. I wish that I could have met you!

Clark was new to our family, his son Matthew married our Skylar (my niece) just under one year ago. We got to know him during the weekend festivities, especially during a game meant to help us get to know the bride and groom (and each other) better. We are feeling sorrow at the sudden loss of Matthew's father, and Theresa's husband. It is so difficult when there is no chance to say goodbye. Our hearts are full of love for them, and for Sara, especially in the coming months, the holidays, which will feel so different without him. We love you as family.

I send my most sincere condolences to the Fletcher family and to those who he cared about and cared for. His contribution to the Porsche 944 goes well beyond just supporting peoples hobbies. Mr. Fletcher`s contributions, educated, empowered and emancipated many owners. His work helped to set the records straight by dispelling misinformation, helped owners do more work themselves and gave us the knowledge to understand which repair shop to choose. His work help dreamer get and keep their dream cars. I could go on.
Rest in peace Mr. Fletcher
Thank you.

Clark made a HUGE difference in the level of enjoyment that many new 944 owners experienced because of his website. I, like many 944 owners, never even met or talked to "Fletch", but he had a tremendous effect on our community through the many tips and tech articles he hosted. I hope the website stays up and available so that he can continue helping 944 owners.
Sincerely,

I never met Clark, but have been to his website thousands of times since 2003 or so. His knowledge and dedication to the 944 has helped me keep both 944s on the road. Even though we never met, it saddened me to hear of his passing. There are many in the Porsche community who felt close to Clark because of the knowledge he shared and were affected by the news of his passing.

What can you say to do justice to the memory of a man who gave so much and asked for nothing in return. I told a friend yesterday that one of the most amazing things about Clark is that we all felt like we were his best friend. What an astounding quality for a person to have to make everyone he came in contact with feel that special. To say he will be missed doesn't go far enough. We miss the light when it's dark outside. We will miss Clark in a thousand ways that we don't even realize yet. I will miss him calling me when I just needed someone to talk to. I will miss his insane way of making a horrible situation seem funny. I will miss his big bear hugs when you least expected it. I am honored to have called this man a friend for the past 35 years. I love you brother.

A small note to say thank you to Hugh for his contribution to others who shared a passion for 944s. His efforts were a valuable resource and his willingness to compile and share his knowledge were greatly appreciated.

Thoughts are with his family - I'm sure sometimes you wondered if his tinkering and internetting were worth all he put in, but they made people from around the world very happy when we found the solution that Hugh found first!

Michael Weinstein

October 14, 2017

I didn't know Clark personally, but only through his Porsche 944 website. His contribution to the community of Porsche owners is the single most important website on the Internet for our type of automobile. There is not a week that goes by that I don't study his work and look to him for guidance. He was a friend to all of us, whether he knew it or not.

For a man to devote hundreds of hours to develop a resource for people that he didn't even know shows his kindness, generosity, and passion. I will forever be in his debt, and only hope that his work will live on for years to come. That would be a fitting tribute to Clark, as he could continue helping hundreds, if not thousands of people for years into the future.

My sincere condolences to Clark's family. No one should be taken at such a young age, but he will be remembered every day by a large group of people that he may not have known cared so much about him. Godspeed.

Thank you Clark. I bought my first 944 - and decided to become a conscientious car owner - because of your website Clark's Garage. The writing is so good, on numerous occasions I thought my car problem was not covered there, but in fact it was - the way a good reference manual should be. Over 10 years later, it's no less valuable than when I started. Thank you Clark for your service to citizen, family, and country. I somehow thought I'd meet you somehow, but no.

My sincere condolences to Clark's family and friends. I'm sure it is becoming clear, if it wasn't before, how deeply Clark impacted the Porsche 944 community. Every time one of these cars passes by on the road, I'm hoping we all take a minute to think of Clark and thank him again -- chances are he helped keep it going. We'll miss you Clark.

Clark has touched the lives of SO many in the 944 community, and we were all so blessed to have him. I feel like he is a part of my family, even though I have never met his. His hard work has help countless numbers of 944 owners over the years and I'm one of them. Because of his help I have never given up on my cars. This in turn has helped me establish a business around the 944. I believe this wouldn't have been possible without the help of Clark. I've very grateful for him, and sad at the news of his passing.

The 944 community is here to help if you need anything. Please let us know, you will have support of many people from around the world.

To the Fletcher Family,

I had just gotten to know Clark over the past few months through our shared love of scuba diving. My wife and I had just recently dived with Clark and had a really good time doing so. And even though we were mere acquaintances, when I found out about his passing, I felt a profound sense of loss. So I know you are devastated by this tragic event.

It is always difficult to come up with the proper words to adequately comfort the family of someone who has been suddenly taken from them and to convey our sincerest sympathy and condolences. Just know that Clark had many friends in his life that truly enjoyed his company and he will be forever missed.

It is with sadness that I offer my words of condolences in the passing of Clark.

As a former Submariner, who is currently employed in the Nuclear energy (formerly as an Operator and now within the Spent Fuel Management) business, having owned Porsche 944 based vehicles for over a decade now, having been to the website numerous times to glean information and of all things having actually been to the McGuire Nuclear Station numerous times - it seems that we had a lot in common, yet our paths never officially crossed where we could shake hands and reminisce about shared similar experiences.

No doubt you have touched countless number of lives whom you've never met or otherwise knew - but know that you have impacted literally thousands of enthusiasts within the Porsche community.

Rest your oars Sailor - we have the watch.

Over the last 8 years of 944 ownership Clark's Garage has become an ever-present friend and the first place I've turned to for any knowledge. Clark's Website has helped so many people across the world and has become synonymous with quality and attention to detail. Clark Fletcher is the man for whom hundreds or indeed thousands of people would like to buy him a beer for how much help he has unknowingly provided them over the years.

Rest in Peace Clark, May your 10mm and 13mm sockets never be far away.

Sometimes it is hard for family to not only appreciate a family member's hobby, but to also realize the impact that their loved one has had on other people.

Your Clark, was indispensable to us Porsche owners. And in ways that we could never describe. Simply put, there was no other person on the planet that was a valuable resource to us, including the Porsche company itself. His expertise and help was crucial to hundreds of thousands of Porsche owners on the planet.

I am so, so very sorry for your loss.

There are few names that will ever reverberate in my mind like Clark.

He is known to me, and countless others, as the all-knowing master and patient teacher of all things 944. He is one of the first people you are introduced to when you buy your first 944. Every question asked on 90% of any 944 forum has the eternal question asked:
"Have you checked clarks-garage.com yet?"

I realize that there is nothing that can replace him in your lives. The uncomfortable absence of his presence cannot be filled by the words of people from the internet.
His teachings have, and will forever be, a staple of the 944 community. He has helped countless people keep (or return) their cars to the road. It might not seem like much to some...but it is everything to those who know. I owe him. We all do. He will never be forgotten by us, and I hope that can bring you some solice.

He needlessly helped thousands of people with the wealth of information he gathered over the years working in the automotive industry. He didn't keep the information to himself but he passed it on for free through a website that wasn't free to him.

I never met him in person but reading through those hungreds of pages made even the most daunting tasks on my Porsche seem like I was still playing legos. He instilled the kind of confidence that made it easy to do a clutch job on a 944 over a weekend by myself. And now my mentor is suddenly gone.

May he rest in peace.

I wanted to send my heart-felt wishes to Mr. Fletcher's Family. Although we had never met, his contribution to the Porsche Community (including myself) was and remains infallible. I wish I had the opportunity to meet him, however; a part of his spirit goes along for the ride every time I get behind the wheel of my 944 as well as many others. Clark's Garage references come up at every Porsche gathering; I just met a father and son team that recently purchased a 944 to restore together. Mr. Fletcher's legacy will continue to influence the community for generations to come.

I never met Clark but I feel like I knew him. My association with Clark is through his website Clark's Garage. For those of us in the Porsche 944 community, this website has become our virtual bible. His website is extremely comprehensive, well written, well illustrated and so useful. We always tell every new Porsche 944 owner "Go to Clark's Garage." Now that I know he was a training instructor I can see how he channeled that life experience into Clark's Garage. Many of us in the Porsche community were shocked to hear of his passing. He is so highly respected by us and will be sorely missed. Godspeed Clark!

Please accept my condolences on Clarks passing. I, like a very large number of other Porsche 944 owners, are deeply in the debt of Clark and his generosity and kindness in sharing his knowledge and passion with us. Clarks reputation as an authority on Porsche 944's is recognized throughout the world (I'm not exaggerating when I say that) and he's a legend amongst those of us on the Rennlist Porsche forum.

I had the great fortune to have met him in person a number of times early into my ownership of my first Porsche (in 1996, if I recall correctly) and I have considered him to be my friend ever since, and I am staggered to hear of his passing.

Godspeed, Clark! You will always be remembered every time I take my 951 out for a drive.
