SO sad to hear of Hugh's passing. I sang with him in the Ryerson church choirs in the 1960's-70's having my ~ 8 year-old "debut" therein. I owe that experience singing with him to have gotten me all the way to Carnegie Hall where I was able to sing with my present-day (2017) Washington Chorus in the District of Columbia. THANK YOU, Hugh and best of everything to your family. Warm regards, Susan Gamble

Hugh was a mentor. I was his student and sang at Ryerson. He had a great effect on my life.

I am so sad to hear of Hugh's passing. He was my organ teacher at the University of British and was such a major influence on my musical career. His influence as a teacher and his encouragement of his students was profound. Beyond teaching, he was the major influence on so many aspects of Vancouver's musical life during the time that he lived there. He will be sorely missed. My condolences go to Anne and all of his family. Rest in peace and may angels lead you into paradise.

My wife & I had the privilege of singing with this brilliant gentleman in the Ryerson u.c. Choir. He opened minds to the glorious sound of liturgical music - ancient & modern-and crafted the most beautiful choral services for Christmas & Easter. Rest in peace, dear Friend & Mentor.

We were very saddened to hear of the passing of Hugh, and send condolences to his family.
Hugh will surely be missed but always remembered for his generosity and encouragement to so many musicians during his most prestigious and dedicated career. He was instrumental in advancing my professional life as a teacher and composer and I much appreciate all that he did on my behalf during his very full life. As well as being such an accomplished organist and choral director, he was a great scholar, making the world of music accessible to us all through his research and dedication.
