Coach Pepper was a good man! I never had the privilege of being coached by him but I played golf with him a few times and I saw first hand what a good man he was. God bless him.

Sending my love and condolences to Janice and her Family in the passing of Hugh. I have fond memories of their courtship at Mississippi Southern in 1953 - he the handsome sports hero and she the pretty coed. I'm sure it was love at first sight, which continued happily for 63 years.

Hugh was a great coach but he was even a better person and he is really going to be missed! May god bless him and his family.

Coach Pepper was a wonderful mentor to scores of young men and women during his lifetime. He likely will be remembered for his amazing sports accomplishments and deservingly so, but I will always be very thankful for the tremendously positive influence he had upon me as a young adult in which he taught me to truly care about others, the value of teamwork, the joy of setting goals and achieving them. It was a sincere privilege to know him, be his friend, and experience life with him. Coach will be sorely missed, but his legacy will live on in our hearts and deeds.

Coach Pepper was an inspiration to all the students throughout our school years. He will be sadly missed. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

What an inspiration & motivator he was in the halls of OSHS! He always had time for each of us & made us feel important.

He was a remarkable man and will be missed by anyone who ever knew him.

Back in the old days was my honor to catch for him when he was getting ready to go to Florida for spring training. Those were good days.
