Family and friends filled St Peter's Church, Mansfield, for the service which preceded cremation at the town's crematorium of local businessman Mr Ian Michael Brackenbury (39), of New Mill Lane, Mansfield Woodhouse.
Born at King's Mill Hospital, Sutton, life-long local resident Mr Brackenbury was educated at Abbey Gates School, Ravenshead, and Rodney School, Kirklington.
After leaving school he worked for the family business, Harold Brackenbury Ltd, Builders, and then 10 years ago set up his own business, Ian Brackenbury & Sons Ltd.
Mr Brackenbury was a very keen steam enthusiast, owning his own steam roller, and a steam engine stood outside St Peter's Church, throughout the service.
In his younger days he had been a member of North Nottinghamshire Nautilus Diving Club.
Mr Brackenbury, who died at King's Mill Hospital, Sutton, leaves his wife, Mrs Julie Brackenbury, twins Joy and Harry Brackenbury, his parents, Maurice and Jennifer Brackenbury, of Nottingham Road, Ravenshead, and his brother, Martin.
