As a former student also of St Andrews I first met this extremely caring and dedicated GP in my first year, 1983! "Time was not of the essence for this GP in that he gave however much time was needed to every one of his patients. His careful explanations and his detailed picture diagrams showed how much he cared for the health and wellbeing of his patients. He spent time with bereaved families, giving support to patients and their families alike.
Thank you, Dr Mathewson.

I'm a former patient of Dr Mathewson, long since moved away from St Andrews but he has always stuck in my mind as the best GP i've ever encountered, for his ability to treat a patient like a whole person, for his wit and humour and for his ability to listen carefully and diagnose quickly. I can only imagine how many people had their fear taken away thanks to his skills.

Ian was the bad cop for my interview to become a partner in 1996. How wrong could that have been! He always put down his pen and looked up when I was stuck or wanted advice..... in a busy place, others would continue signing prescriptions or other. His wisdom was legendary in the practice and was never afraid to express even a contentious thought.
At meetings, he would often share how Mary worked and was so proud of her working ability and ethical approach. He quietly shared his strong pride in his off spring and Theo.
I send my biggest love. I am so sorry
