Ian MCDERMID

MCDERMID, Ian McLeod
Ian passed away on April 20, 2017 at St. Paul's Hospital at the age of 83 years. He was a resident of Luther Care Home for the past 15 months. He is survived by his wife Dianne of 58 years; their two children, son Bradley (Connie Rhinehart) and daughter Joanne Ellis (David Beaubien): brother-in-law Ernie (Clem) Schlamp of Calgary and sisters-in- law Pat Schlamp and Valerie McKenzie of Edmonton; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Martha and Collingwood McDermid, brother-in-law Jim Schlamp, and sister-in-law Penny Porteous. Ian moved with his parents from Winnipeg to Saskatoon in 1950 and attended Nutana Collegiate. He was active in football, baseball, and hockey. Ian and Dianne were members of the Riverside Tennis and Saskatoon Badminton Clubs for 45 years. After retirement from the federal government, they enjoyed many winters in Mesa, Arizona. In the spring and fall Ian's passion was his fishing trips with son Brad and friends to Lac La Plonge, SK. He also enjoyed his membership in the Saskatoon Bridge Club. Thanks to Dr. Tymchak and to the doctors and staff of the Hemodialysis Unit at St. Paul's Hospital for their care and support. As Ian did not want a funeral, a family Celebration of his Life will be held.
