Ian Donald McEachern, 55, of Sarasota, Florida, passed away unexpectedly on September 1, 2022. Ian was born and raised in Fairfield, CT. He spent summers at Candlewood Lake. An avid outdoorsman, Ian took great joy in fishing, duck hunting, jet skiing, and kayaking at Candlewood Lake, the Long Island Sound, and the Gulf of Mexico. Ian achieved renown as the general manager of Owen's Fish Camp, one of Florida's most popular restaurants. He was beloved and respected by his employees as well as the owner. Ian will always be remembered for his quick-witted humor, dedication to his friends and work, and his generous spirit. He touched many people in meaningful ways.
While the circumstances of his death have deeply saddened our family and those who knew him, it is our hope this will not define his legacy.
Ian was predeceased by his parents, Donald and Marilyn (Carpenter) McEachern; and his brother, Ward McEachern. Ian is survived by his children, Alexandra (Joshua) Martin-McEachern and Evan McEachern; his brothers, Keith (Pamela) McEachern, Brian McEachern, Dana McEachern; and his nephews, Michael McEachern, Ryan (Rachel) McEachern, Jesse McEachern, and Lucas McEachern.
A celebration of life memorial will be held on September 25th at 1:00 pm at Veronica's Fish and Oyster, Sarasota, FL. In lieu of giving flowers, the family asks those who are able to donate to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

It's hard to believe a year has passed without Ian in the world. All the memories here speak to the loving and caring person he was - in the McEachern and Carpenter clan, and in his world of so many friends. Gone from this Earth, but never from from All of our thoughts

Worked for Ian for several summers at the legendary 'Home Painting Company', knew him long before that (but not well) and after as golf buddies. Never a dull moment with Ian MC, the world seemed a bit dimmer this year, now I know why. Catch you for 18 on the other side...

I am at a loss for words and there is a hole in my heart. Ian was one of the main reasons we continued to stay at Midnight Cove! He became such an important part of our family´s Siesta Key memories! From long talks on the beach under his special coconut decorated "pirate" umbrella, buried treasure hunts with maps for my grandsons, and finally to my daughter´s wedding on Siesta Beach. A truly wonderful man! We miss you and will hold our memories of you and your wisdom and smile forever. Hoping you have found the ultimate peace that eluded you here!

One summer when I was 9 or 10 Ian set up a treasure hunt for me and my brother. He gave us a sword that I have kept till this day. We met him at midnight cove and always looked forward to seeing him. We will miss you dearly Ian.

Very sorry to hear of Ian's passing. He was such a wonderful guy. Met him at Midnight Cove and he was always so pleasant and helpful. No one has been able to do justice to that position like Ian. Great Man. Although I do not know any of his family, my heart goes out to you. He will be missed.

This picture is from a restaurant in Galveston. He said I want to take you to the place where your dad courted your mom. So we went to Gaidos. Thank you for amazing memories my luv.

My deepest sympathies to Ian´s family and all of his friends. It makes me so sad to know that he is not here on this earth anymore to put a smile on everyone´s face. He was a genuinely good guy with a huge heart. Our family was blessed to have known him. Ian, you are, and will continue to be, truly missed. You were a great guy to our Jordan. You taught our son so many life lessons and we will forever be thankful for that. Until we meet again...Katie

I, Suzanne, and my family including Jill, Pete, Mia and Sam are all so sorry to learn of Ian´s passing. He was a favorite "Cousin" at the Lake, in fact my husband Jay´s first cousin (Jay now deceased). We all knew Ian to be kind, generous and fun to be with. We haven´t seen him in quite a while but we do know the world was a better place with Ian here, and we will truly miss him.
