Ian Locklin Robertson, 40, of Staunton and formerly Monterey, crossed over from this life to begin his next journey on June 28, 2023.
Born December 8, 1982 in Charlottesville, Ian was raised in Highland County, and graduated from Highland High School in 2001. Soon after graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy and would remain in service to his country until his honorable discharge in 2013 as a Logistics Specialist 2nd Class. While serving, Ian quickly advanced through the ranks, obtaining several medals and citations as well as his degree in Electronic Ordinance Disposal. Upon his return to civilian life, Ian relocated his family to Monterey and began his employment with the Highland County Sherriff’s Office as an emergency services dispatcher and ultimately as a sheriff’s deputy - a position he was extremely proud of.
Among his many talents he was a gifted musician and specially enjoyed playing and building electric guitars, of which he owned 18. Additionally, he was an exceptional cook and enjoyed preparing meals for his family. Ian enjoyed hiking, bodysurfing, snowboarding at Snowshoe Mountain and simply being active outside. Ian was also a knowledgeable firearms enthusiast, and though he did not enjoy hunting sports, he enjoyed time shooting on the range. He will also be remembered for his fondness for animals of kinds and genuine appreciation for his friends. But above all, Ian was a proud father, who truly had the best of intentions for his family.
Surviving family members include his mother, Keri Ruth Fujiwara of Charlottesville; his father, Roy “Rob” V. Robertson Jr., and wife, Cathy of Big Valley; his children, Orion, Aletheia and Odin Robertson; sister, Arwen (Robertson) Maier and husband, Eric of Lahaina, Hawaii; a half-sister, Jennifer Duggins of Denver, Co; his nephews, Locklin and Kai Maier; and niece, Riley Maier; as well as a great number of extended family members and friends.
A celebration of Ian’s life will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, July 22, 2023 at Obaugh Funeral Home with speaker and friend David Stephenson.
Memorial contributions in memory of Ian may be made to Highland County Humane Society, PO Box 458 Monterey VA 24465.
