I am grieved to read of the passing of Professor Ian Ross. I had the privilege of studying with him as both an undergraduate and as a graduate student at UBC. He was a man of profound integrity. He had a passion for his field of expertise, and he ignited that passion in his students. Without a doubt, he was the best English Literature teacher I had at UBC. Aside from his teaching, he was a generous and compassionate man, and he took a personal interest in helping to advance learning opportunities for others. He was always approachable and he was one of the few in the department that encouraged original thinking. I know he will be missed by those who knew and loved him, but I also know that he will be remembered always by his many former students. May you rest in perpetual peace, dear professor!

I have always remembered Dr.Ross with the greatest pleasure and the greatest respect. I havn't seen him or spoken to
him since my undergraduate days in the early '60s, but it has always been a joy to read of his activities. I have thought of him as one of the few real scholars with whom I was ever acquainted.
