In Loving Memory of Ida (Aube) Snakenborg

July 12, 1938 - April 21, 2025

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Ida, of Arroyo Grande, California on April 21, 2025. She was born to Rosario and Maria Mammino on July 12, 1938, in Lawrence, Mass., the youngest of four siblings.

Ida brought an abundance of love, warmth, and affection into the lives of her family and all who knew her. She was exceedingly thoughtful, never failing to acknowledge a loved one's birthday or other special occasion. She had a way of making every moment feel special and made instant connections wherever she went. Relishing life's simple pleasures, she loved spending time with family and friends, listening to a variety of music, laughing, dancing, feeding the birds, giving hugs, and cooking her legendary Sicilian pasta meals. Her warm hospitality and zest for life created a home where everyone felt welcomed, loved, and well-fed.

Ida gave generously not only to her family, but to her community. She dedicated time and talent to raising funds and resources for nonprofit organizations, such as the Muscular Dystrophy Association and St. James Catholic Church Guild. As a prolific producer, publicist, and MC extraordinaire, Ida touched and inspired numerous lives with her passion for live theater and the arts in the South Bay. Later, as a resident of Arroyo Grande, she enjoyed antique and collectible selling, attending AARP conventions with lifelong friends, travel, and hosting.

Above all, Ida was a devoted wife, mother, and deeply cherished Nana/Granny. She is survived by her spouse of 32 years, John Snakenborg; her daughters: Flora Aube (Tom Mays), Maria Aube Martin and Irene Aube-Akiyama (Keith Akiyama); son Robert Aube; and her children's father, Leonard E. Aube. She was predeceased by her beloved son, Leonard J. Aube (Robin), and her three siblings: Salvatore Mammino, John Mammino, and Irene Johnson. She is cherished by 17 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Ida's love for her family was boundless, and her legacy will live on in each of us.

Thank you, Lord, for the blessing of our dear mom.

A Celebration of Life with family and friends will be held at a later date.

Donations in Ida's honor may be made to AltaSea at the Port of Los Angeles, reflecting Ida's generous spirit and support of her late son, Leonard, who was one of the founding members of this impactful nonprofit organization.

I was so sorry to hear about Ida. There are some people who light up every room they walk into - and Ida was absolutely one of them. Her wild adventures, unstoppable laughter, and that legendary ability to make way too much Italian food will never be forgotten.

She had a rare gift: she could turn an ordinary day into something unforgettable. Whether it was a spontaneous road trip or a dinner that could feed a neighborhood, Ida lived life with a full heart and an unmatched sense of humor. We´re all better for having known her.

Sending you our deepest sympathy, and hoping you find comfort in the joyful memories she leaves behind. Ida´s spirit will always be with us - in laughter, in love, and, of course, in pasta.

With love and remembrance,

Irene Aube-Akiyama

I remember seeing your Mom many times at your house before we went in the Marine Corps (also your Dad sometimes). She was always very welcoming and kind! The last time, I know for sure, I saw her was at your sister`s wedding after Boot Camp.

I know Leonard welcomed her into Heaven! What a wonderful woman! All of you are in my prayers . My deepest condolences to all of you! Paul
