Ilene Scherer Obituary
MANSFIELD: Ilene Scherer, 88, of Mansfield, died April 17, 2014. Born May 18, 1925 in Wellston, OH, she was the daughter of George and Ida (Pemberton) Smith. Ilene married Harold W. Scherer in 1946 and they moved to Mansfield in 1947. She was the owner and operator of Scherer's Drapery Service for 40 years. In her free time, she loved playing bridge and poker with her friends. Ilene was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church. A past Vice President of Lexington Area Senior Citizens, Ilene also volunteered as a Grey Lady at Mansfield General Hospital.
Surviving are her children, Judith A. (James) Crowl, Ronald (Camile) Scherer, Tom (Lynn) Scherer, and David (Kyna) Scherer; grandchildren, Andrew (Kristi) Crowl, Ilene (Noah) Gemzer, Drew Scherer, Trent Scherer, Jason Scherer, Nicole (Josh) Miller, Lyndsey Scherer, Matt Scherer, Alysa Scherer, Briana Scherer, and August Scherer; great grandchildren, Olivia and Ava Crowl and Kegan and Liam Gemzer; daughter-in-law, Mary Scherer; sister, Othelo (John) Luther; and sister in-law, Betty Smith.
Ilene was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold W. Scherer; son, Joseph Scherer; and brother, Donald Smith.
A private memorial service will be held at a future date. Memorial contributions may be made to Harbor Light Hospice, 2312 Village Park Court, Ontario, OH 44906. The Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors is privileged to serve the family of Ilene Scherer.
