Inderjeet BHOI

BHOI, Inderjeet Singh Beloved husband, cherished father and son of the late Sardar Bhajan Singh Bhoi, former Superintendent of Police, Kenya and late Sardarni Jagjeet Kaur. He passed away peacefully at his home in Ottawa on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at the age of 78 years. Mr. Bhoi was an accomplished scholar, educator, international public speaker, writer and lawyer who loved to serve all. He achieved international acclaim and accreditation and attained high academic standing by receiving his LL.B. (Hons.) King's College, University of London, United Kingdom (1960); Barrister-at-Law, Middle Temple, London (1961); Post-graduate Diploma in Public Administration, University of Nairobi, Kenya (1963); Carnegie Fellow in International Law and Diplomacy, Columbia University, New York (1962) and finally his LL.B. University of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada (1977). Mr. Bhoi migrated to Ottawa from Kenya in 1974 with his family after an illustrious career in the Kenyan Civil Service that spanned from 1961 until 1974. He was one of the primary members of Kenya's Transition Team to Independence from British colonial rule. He also served as Kenya's Senior Deputy Secretary of Foreign Affairs and was Kenya's Official Representative to the United Nations during his tenure. In Ottawa, Mr. Bhoi continued working in the public sector in the international arena. In 1975 he joined the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) as Senior Counsel and retired as IDRC's Deputy Secretary and Associate General Counsel in 1982. He engaged in the private practice of law until his retirement. He was avid supporter of the Sikh community and often contributed to its prominence in the nation's capital. He is survived by his loving wife Jaswindar (Chindo) Bhoi, and his children Rupy (Karen), Babna (Vivek), Ronny (Tina), Sukhy, Madan Sharma and all his 10 grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by all including the Bhoi and Virdee families. Visitation and Sukhmani Sahib will be held at the Pinecrest Remembrance Chapel, 2500 Baseline Road, Ottawa on Monday, October 30 from 10:00 a.m. to 12 Noon, followed by Ardas prayers at Ottawa Sikh Gurdwara Sahib, 25 Gurdwara Road, Nepean at 1:00 p.m.
