Iola M. Walker

Rest in peace, Iola.

My condolences to the family. My mother, Rosemary Potts Bible, was a friend of Iola's. I believe they knew each other from camp - not sure whether Girl Scout or YWCA. I am cleaning out some of my mom's papers and found something with Iola's name on it, and so I just googled and found this obituary. I do vaguely remember Iola and Gordon coming to visit in Ohio when I was a kid. I know my mom thought the world of Iola -- please accept my sympathies.

Mrs. Walker was our Senior Girl Scout leader back when I was in High School. She was dedicated to many young people and encouraged us to be all we could be. With our meetings at All Saints Church she led our Mariner troop of teenage girls, many times challenging us outside of our comfort zones. Always believing in us, she saw to it that we acquired a wooden sail boat, even had dreams to take us to Mystic, Connecticut. Besides helping to build our character, she was also like a mother to us all, always doing her best to help us succeed. She definitely impacted my life in an unforgettable way, leaving quite a legacy and will be missed.

Iola loved to watch Deb or I walk our two little Bichon Frise dogs past her house each day. She was a dog lover! We both recall her inviting us in so she could pamper the pups. Iola was always warm and welcoming to us.

So many fond memories of Iola; Phil remembers her well as the "police" lady, she always called him, " One of her boys". She loved our youngest daughter Liza and Liza her. There were many hugs and shared painted love notes. To me, she was an art inspiration. Our prayers go out to the family.
She is missed.
