Mrs. Iona Mendolia Bell, age 89, of Douglasville, GA, formerly of Hicksville, NY, died Friday, July 26, 2013. She was born March 28, 1924 in McKees Rocks, PA, the daughter of the late Joseph Mendolia and Antonette Cantania. She was baptized January 25, 1925 as Melchiorra Mendolia. She was a loving mother, sister and daughter – and a doting grandmother. She never met a slot machine she didn't like. In addition to gambling and casinos, she loved life, enjoyed cards, playing pinochle and Texas Hold'em. In addition to her father, Mrs. Bell was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard R. Bell; her son, John A. Bell; her brother, John J. Mendolia, Sr.; her sister, Marie Greenough; and her stepfather, Anthony M. Lentini. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Alan Taylor of Douglasville, GA; one grandson, Steve Brummer and his wife Shari of Gainesville, GA; two granddaughters, Susan Hale of Smyrna, GA and Amy Trimmer and her husband Greg of Douglasville, GA; one beloved great-grandson, Elijah Trimmer; her mother, Jean (Antonette) Lentini of Ballston Lake, NY; and her sister, Pauline Santoro of Ballston Lake, NY. A private service is planned for the family.
