IRA FRANKLIN RYAN

VICTORIA - Ira Franklin Ryan, age 87, passed away Wednesday, April 11, 2012. He was born in Goliad, Texas on June 20, 1924 to the late Ira Franklin Ryan Sr. and Mary Marshall Ryan.
He graduated from Pawnee High School and received a Bachelor's and Master's Degree from Texas A & I University in Kingsville, Texas. Mr. Ryan was a United States Navy veteran and served as a Navy Gunner in the U. S. Navy Armed Guard during World War II in the South Pacific. He was an educator, serving as teacher, administrator and guidance counselor in Pettus, Flour Bluff, Somerset, Victoria and established the counseling department at St. Joseph High School. He loved his God, his family, his country, his land and raising cattle. He was a charter member of the Independent Cattlemen's Association.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Victoria for forty-five years and the Come One, Come All Sunday School Class.
He married Dorothy Fay Hemby on May 23 1951 in San Antonio. He is survived by his devoted wife of sixty-one years; his daughters, Martha Kneifl (Phil) of Victoria, Paula Fong (Don) of Purcellville, Virginia, and Pamela Kocur (Peter) of Fort Worth; two granddaughters, Amanda Kocur and Claire Fong; four grandsons, Scott Reiser (Laurie), Mathew Kneifl, Wilson Fong, and Jason Kocur; two great grandchildren, Andrew and Kaitlyn Reiser; brother, Jimmie K. Ryan (Helen) of Sherman; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Dorris Brown; brothers, Marshall Ryan and Morris K. Ryan.
Visitation will be held 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Friday, April 13, 2012 at Colonial Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held 10:00 am Saturday, April 14, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Jarrell Sharp officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, with Flag-folding Military Honors Auspices of Victoria County Veterans Council, AL, CWV, VFW, DAV, MCL, MOWW, Ex-POW, MOPH, VVA and the KWV. Serving as pallbearers will be Scott Reiser, Mathew Kneifl, Wilson Fong, Jason Kocur, Amanda Kocur and Claire Fong. Honorary pallbearers include members of the Come One, Come All Sunday School Class.
Donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church Foundation Fund or donor's choice.

Mrs. Ryan,

We just learned of Frank's passing this morning. We were so sorry to hear his death. May the Lord bless and keep you through what will surely be a difficult adjustment period for you and your family.

We will always remember with great fondness Frank taking us out to meet his donkey, of whom he was so proud. They were so cute together! Dorothy, our thoughts and prayers are with you. Frank will be greatly missed by countless many.

DOROTHY FAY AND FAMILY MEMBERS. HEARD OF THE SADNESS THRU VESTINE NESLONY. I HAVE FOND MEMORIES AS THE RYAN FAMILY USED TO LIVE A STONE'S THROW FROM US THERE IN PAWNEE. I ESPECIALLY REMEMBER THEM COMING OVER ON MY 16TH BIRTHDAY FOR WATERMELON. I TOO ALSO REMEMBER JIMMY SINGING IN THE AUDITORIUM DURING THE WWII...WHEN JOHNNY COMES MARCHING HOME AGAIN. GREAT MEMORIES.
