I will miss Ira dearly forever and we were a wonderful writing team back to New York and he always made me laugh and smile and his family always welcomed me into their home and Toni always made sure we had a good lunch as we were writing music, again my deepest condolences. Very sad.

Ira’s smile and “joi de vivre” was infectious. This earth is one ray of sunshine lesser for his loss. Sending condolences to his family.

I have been thinking a lot about what lessons or values Ira had taught me during the many years I had known him.

Let me share three.

From Ira Singer I learned about flexibility, no matter what challenges Ira had faced in life, he was able to create something new and meaningful. When he was excessed, let go, from teaching music in New York, he became a music teacher in Maryland. When he lost his job as a music teacher in Maryland, he became a software consultant for Oracle and served as music director at our Temple, Temple Isaiah.

From Ira Singer I learned resilience. No matter what unpleasant things had transpired in his life, Ira somehow had the ability and fortitude to recreate himself and find a new way to gain personal meaning and help others simultaneously.

Lastly, Ira Singer taught me to smile and enjoy life irrespective of what was happening in his life and in his world. Indeed, in my own mind right now I can hear Ira saying to me and to all those who are mourning for him : "Don't worry about me, I'm in a better place right now, go and fulfill your dreams and "tikkun olum", repair the world."

May the memory of Ira Singer always be a source of blessing to all those he touched.

In love, in friendship and in respect.
