Rev. Clarence Lamar Cawthon

Rev. Clarence Lamar Cawthon - Hagan -Rev. Clarence Lamar Cawthon, 79, passed away, November 8, 2006. The Rockdale County native grew up in Newton County, Porterdale, Ga. He served in the Wesleyn Methodist Church in Greensboro, Georgia for 8 years and 1 year in Cordele, Georgia. In 1964 he became a part of the South Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church, where he served 26 years as an active member and 15 years as a retired supply. From 1952-1954 he and his wife served as house parents to the Hepzibah Childrens Home in Macon, GA. Rev. Cawthon and Ella became a part of the Evans County region when he served as minister for the Hagan United Methodist Church from 1979 to 1984 and then again from 1996 to 2005. He was preceded in death by his son, Leif Charles Cawthon. Survivors: his wife, Ella Voight Cawthon of Hagan; three sons, Eric Stephen Cawthon, of Laurel, M.D. Mark Anthony Cawthon, of King George, V.A. and Peter Ward Cawthon; of Ocean Spring M.S. two sisters, Mary Elizabeth Parker and Sandra Alice Stowe; nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Visitation: Friday, 10, 2006 at 6:00 p.m., until, at Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home. Funeral: Saturday, November 11, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church of Claxton.
